We look at the rules about the right treatment of slaves from the Book of the Covenant to grow in our understanding of God's character, look forward to Christ, and learn about ourselves.

Drawing together various passages of Scripture, this sermon answers the question of why our church is committed to the signing of hymns and psalms.

The opening of the Book of the Covenant (20:22-23:33) lays down principles to ensure right worship. Our worship of God is done rightly when it is word-mediated, contains no images, avoids syncretism, follows God's instructions, recognizes God's presence, avoids human ingenuity, and the worshipers have reverential modesty and purity.

Mark records Jesus' healing of the paralytic to teach about the nature of the Son of Man. In this sermon, we look to the Old Testament to define for us what it means for Jesus to be the Son of Man. Consequently, we are compelled to look in faith to him for forgiveness and reassurance.

This sermon looks at the Ten Commandments from a bird's-eye-view. Moses teaches us of the law's permanence, personal-ness, and its purposes. Here we are reminded of what we know, but focus on why we know it.

We finish our study of what Mark 1:40-45 tells us about discipleship. We see from Jesus's actions and words that disciples are to obey his commands, brace for opposition, and protect ourselves from habitual busyness.

The Lord descends upon Mt. Sinai to meet with his people. The closest meeting with God that we have today that is like that meeting of old is corporate worship. Consequently, we can learn from God's meeting with his people in Exodus truths about our meeting with God in worship.

We return to Mark 1:40-45 to draw out from it the duty that God requires of man. In this first sermon of two, we see that we are to desire mercy not sacrifice, rightly use our emotions, and pursue holiness of the inner man, not just the outer. The good news is that when we fall short God's grace is greater than our sin and we have a certain hope of sanctification.
