  • Ep. 24 - Diabetes Tech - Access For All - chit chat around challenges & considerations
    Jun 29 2024

In this episode we generally just have chat around some of the topics being raised around National Diabetes Week in Australia next month.

Diabetes Australia wants a future where diabetes can do no harm.

People living with diabetes should be able to access the life-saving technology they need to live well.

This year Diabetes Australia is shining a light on the impact of diabetes tech and what needs to be done to improve access.

We chat about the challenges and considerations around diabetes research funding, as well as funding diabetes technology for both children and adults. We discuss both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in relation to access to CGM, and just share some of our own thoughts, as well as some of the evidence around these topics.

Listen in and feel free to contact us via our socials or email below with any comments or feedback. We are always open to other’s experiences and thoughts.

  • Ep. 23 - Essentials for Pregnancy Planning - Type 1 & 2 Diabetes (Pt. 1)
    Mar 31 2024

There are some key considerations for pregnancy when you have Type 1 or 2 Diabetes. In Episode 23, Jaimee talks about the importance of aiming to achieve recommendations for glucose management to reduce some possible very serious complications to Mum &/or Bub during pregnancy. As someone living with Type 1 Diabetes, Jaimee understands how it feels to be told you should not fall pregnant until you get your HbA1c down to 6.5% or less! It can feel like an unachievable and unfair target. Listen in to hear why pregnancy planning is SO important for women with T1D & T2D. Jaimee also covers other considerations around medications, supplements and screenings which should be discussed with your diabetes team.

Warning ‼️ some content may be triggering and confronting in this episode.

The essentials are covered in this podcast as Part 1, with more to come in the future.

This is not individualised advice and you should always work with your diabetes team when making adjustments to your diabetes management.

  • Ep. 22 - Weight Loss & Type 2 Diabetes Meds (Ozempic, Saxenda & Mounjaro) - Chit Chat about their place
    Feb 27 2024

In this episode Hayley is back. We talk about the very topical subject of weight loss/Type 2 Diabetes medications such as Ozempic, Mounjaro and Saxenda. We discuss our personal thoughts on the place of these meds both within the diabetes space and around their place in weight loss for health improvements. Should they be 'saved' for those with Type 2 Diabetes only? Is it 'cheating' to take these to help with weight loss? Listen in as we share our personal thoughts. These are just our personal experiences and thoughts. We do not intend on offending anyone in any way by any of our comments, and hope this is more thought provoking with considerations for anyone out there with interest in these medications. We would absolutely love to hear other people's experiences.

  • Ep. 19 - Navigating School Camps with T1D - Sharing the Parent Experience with Hayley
    Nov 29 2023

In Episode 19, Hayley shares her very recent experience after going on school camp with her youngest son who has T1D. She talks about the decision-making process of whether to go as a parent, the communication side of things and planning of camp with the school, as well as navigating all the extra activities and camp menu. Some very practical tips are shared in this episode. We also talk about the challenges with children not particularly wanting a parent on their camp. We chat about how they managed the insulin pump and CGM side of things, switching back to injections for a day due to water-based activities. Hayley reflects on the emotional side of this experience, and it certainly wasn’t her first, as her eldest son also has T1D. We hope this helps parents on their journey!

  • Ep. 18 - Let's Talk Alcohol - Safety Considerations & Handy Tips
    Oct 29 2023

This is a quick one where Jaimee talks about the impacts of alcohol for those of us living with diabetes. Planning and knowledge is key to keeping safe if consuming alcohol when you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. This has some tips for everyone, from the young ones to those of the more mature years 😊 I touch on some of the better choices of alcohol, how to reduce risks of the very dangerous hypo’s (low blood glucose levels) when drinking, the short-term and long-term considerations, planning & why glucagon injections may not work in the case of severe hypo. Why correction doses may be dangerous for those on insulin. Tips on how often you should check your glucose levels after drinking, and for how long after? Jaimee shares a bit about her personal (and silly) moments with alcohol when she was younger with T1D. This episode is basically a summary of the NDSS fact sheet on alcohol and diabetes (link below). THIS IS NOT INDIVIDUALISED ADVICE! Please check with your healthcare team before making any decisions or management changes to your diabetes.

  • Ep. 17 - Over 60 years living T1D - with Lynn
    Sep 23 2023

Living Type 1 Diabetes for over 60 years is quite the achievement. In this episode, we have been fortunate enough to have a guest on who is willing to talk to us about everything from diagnosis 62 years ago, to diabetes management over the years until 2023. Lynn shares everything from school to work to camping with diabetes, when needles had to be boiled to sterilise them, glucose was tested purely via the urine, and carb counting was not heard of. We are so grateful to Lynn for coming on and sharing her diabetes in the raw experiences.

Please get in touch if you have any kind of diabetes and would like to share. We would love to have parents or family members on too.
