  • Alyssa Palladino - Reconnect the Pieces
    Jul 29 2024

Food Blogger Alyssa Palladino (@bottomlyssbites) comes by and asks Danny for "Chicken Parm or Eggplant Parm." Why not both?

We jump in with Alyssa telling us how people pronounce her name incorrectly, but not the part of her name you'd think. The two throw out a few nostalgic snacks, how some have fallen off (or never hit the mark to begin with), and Alyssa shares a beloved flavor of ice cream that would be buried deep on a "Most Popular Ice Cream Flavors" list.

Alyssa shifts and tells us about a childhood split between two parents. Yes, there was a divorce, but up until age 9 she lived with her mother. After a tragic accident where her mother passed, Alyssa and her siblings found themselves living with their father and step-mother. At peace with it today, she does look at younger family members who are now the age she was for this traumatic event and think "maybe a 9 year old shouldn't have to deal with that," as well as knowing this has a role in her day to day anxiety.

  • Vivian Dang - The Dreaded "i" Word
    Jul 24 2024

Food Blogger Vivian Dang comes by and asks Danny to make Thit Kho (braised pork and eggs)

Vivian starts with talking about the dinner entertainment she'll usually watch when eating, and how her video of choice makes it so she never has dinner alone. Vivian tells us too about how her love of food came from a mother that always cooked, and even though she now enjoys life as a food blogger, she herself isn't too big on cooking.

The conversation shifts when Vivian shares a magical 10 minutes she had away from her phone, and the two discuss how she never really has time to relax. Even when she does find the time, Vivian is still thinking about the next work thing to take care of, and after thinking about work for most of her life it's hard to come up for fresh air.

  • Dinner with The South Shore Boyz
    Jul 15 2024

Dinner at Your Place brings The South Shore Boyz some bar style pizzas for what basically is a sleepover where everyone stays up too late and has the giggles. Someone's mom is accused of making bad pizza, a seltzer is chugged so fast it almost becomes a regurgitated guest, and we get an argument for flushing food down the toilet.

The South Shore Boyz, along with a podcast, have a weekly stand up comedy show beginning 7/16 at Nash Bar and Stage on Tremont Street in Boston. Show 7:30PM start time.

  • Chuck Staton - A Race to the Bottom
    Jul 8 2024

Musician and Podcast Host/Producer Chuck Staton comes by and asks Danny to make Chicken Marsala and Twice Baked Potatoes.

Chuck starts with the punk band Mohawk days, an unfortunate scalp sunburn, and how even as adults that know better the idea of "you gotta get a sunburn first before you can tan" is a concept people still follow.

We then move into Chuck's love for regional chains. The idea of making a product, cornering a market, and not bending on your morals; the result is a creation that's well liked enough by consumers to provide "comfort" to the creator while not becoming a corporate shell for the sake of excess. Chuck also talks about how today's climate feels like a race to be the first person to say something mean/snarky/sarcastic, and how it basically is just a chocolate cake.

  • Caroline Moore - "We Don't Have Your Uncle"
    Jul 2 2024

Comedian Caroline Moore comes by and asks Danny to make Ooey Gooey Butter Bars.

We begin with what even is an Ooey Gooey Butter Bar, and quickly move to Caroline's dad finding a passion for bull riding. Caroline would be packed up in the family car for a drive to Kansas from Massachusetts to watch her dad compete in a bull riding event at the state fair, while Caroline herself would compete in a sheep riding event known as Mutton Bustin'

After a little slice of Americana, Caroline tells us about her day job as the burial planner for a cemetery. Having always wanted to work in the Deathcare Industry, Caroline walks us through what it's like being the "Wednesday Addams" kid, the idea of respecting death, and how death is something that happens to everyone yet is a conversation no one wants to have.

Caroline also talks about a few predatory practices in the Deathcare Industry, how you really don't need that 700 dollar urn (unless that's what the person going in the urn ACTUALLY wanted), and how even in death there's things to laugh at.

  • Jesse Farris - A Play In Three Penises
    Jun 23 2024

Comedian Jesse Farris comes by and asks Danny to make queso.

Jesse starts with how she was once known as "Heater Girl." A teenager who wished to fade into the background, Jesse found a warm heater at her high school and like a cat made that her kingdom. The two talk getting mistaken for being younger than they are, and how it's considered "good" for women but "bad" for men.

Jesse is also the daughter of past guest Kathe. The two talk having the same career path as a parent, the difference between walking in their footsteps versus being stuck in their shadow, and Jesse gives some advice on the importance of expressing individuality.

Jesse also went to New York City and, in traditional New York City fashion, saw male genitalia.

Also Jesse I know you're reading this so this is just for you (but it applies to everyone): Go get a glass of water.

  • Tanner Pratt - Little League Tony LaRussa
    Jun 14 2024

Little League Coach Tanner Pratt is called in and after an unfortunate semi finals loss in the playoffs, we celebrate a successful first season.

Tanner tells us about how after a move to where he knew no one he needed something to do, and that something turned into coaching Little League. We hear about Tanner's successes, how the kids taught him about things like leadership and acceptance, and that even though it's Little League, he was going to use game theory and analytics to take his ragtag Moneyball team as far as they could go (while still understanding the fact they're 9 and 10 year olds)

Tanner is also a big Celtics fan and as Game 4 of the 2024 Finals rapidly approaches, the two talk a bit of how the finals have gone so far, and where this team stacks up in terms of other historically great teams.

Support Tanner (by supporting his wife Danielle Mishkit / @dmishkit): Be on the lookout for Danielle releasing music under a new band called "Borrow the Bones"

  • Sam Wolfson - Receiving Treatment
    Jun 3 2024

Graphic Designer Sam Wolfson is called in for this week's episode. Sam did the logo for the podcast, so with the weekly standup show starting July 11th it made sense to go back to him for a poster.

The two talk a few ideas and get a rough draft down for a flyer, but only for about 8 minutes way later in the episode. Sam is a V8 engine of personality, and it's a treat to watch him go. He tells us about a run in he had with an ex at his favorite Skeeball bar, and we get the low down on a new sport called "Buoy" that Sam will be playing later this summer in a tournament broadcast on ESPN 8: The Ocho.

Sam also treats us to a story Danny has heard at least a hundred times, and it only gets funnier every time.
