    When I ran across the “Illuminating Climate Era Mindset” report, it was similar to when I discovered the scientific study of emergence and awe. A deep curiosity of what science could tell me about experiences I’ve had for decades. This time about creativity.

    Created for COP28, it showed the correlation between optimism and creativity – specifically for encourage work environments that would nurture climate innovations. Diving in, I found out that one of the scientific advisors for the report is an expert in the science of creativity, Nathaniel Barr.

    Instantly, I reached out and found a wonderful human on the other side. Here we continue the conversation with questions about the definition of creativity, inquiry in science, and transparency in research. Talking about the report, the video version even shows 2 of the pages – including the cool graph showing the correlation between optimism and creativity.

    Then during the grand finale, Nathaniel shares where he falls on that spectrum.

    Tressa Yonekawa Bundren does only one thing, she fixes relationships. She is an award-winning keynote speaker and coach in corporate culture, creativity, and couples relationships. She is a co-founder of Taproot Ventures, a Portland based culture-first consultancy with F100 clients. Her uni degrees are in the neuroscience of cognition and she has spent over two decades successfully working with thousands of top leaders and couples. She was turned down for her first business bank loan out of grad school and became a dominatrix with high profile entertainment and finance clients for two years while also working in medical communications and compliance, built a non-physical, integrity and power domina start-up which funded the medical staffing business she was turned down to finance. Tressa is a fractional autism services coordinator, older child adoption advocate, and adoptive mom of three incredible daughters from the foster care system.

    The root word “eco” is Greek for home. So ecology is really the study of home, and economics is the management of home. For Network Type AJ Schlenger, these two aspects came together as he studied ocean systems.

    Why? Because the current greatest impact on natural systems is how humans assign value – which is mostly through money. So AJ now focuses on supporting startups to create value with nature-based solutions and navigating out of date regulations that can get in the way.

    Yet, the conversation quickly reveals that underneath the power of the dollar lies something even more valuable: relationships. Listen in for how AJ advocates for a truly Networked style of communication.

    Adam Schlenger (PhD) has a multidisciplinary background in oceanography, systems science, and natural resource management, aimed at understanding the complex interactions between human and natural systems to tackle global environmental issues and facilitate fast scaling solutions. His work currently focuses on taking scientific innovation and emerging technology out of the lab and into direct applications that positively impact both people and the natural world to create equitable and sustainable approaches to solving major challenges like climate change.

    Growing up in poverty in LA, Isaias played in nature but had an a-ha moment when he realized he IS nature. And he’s been breaking down barriers ever since.

    Together, we wind our way through the intersection of Western and community-based science and the need for diverse storytelling in both.

    And he’s not stopping there. Looking to the future, he’s imaging events, nonprofits, tv, and more into being – while also acknowledging the need for rest to remain curious and creative.
