  • Ep. 280: Whose Example Are You Following (and Who Is Following You)?
    Jul 21 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 280, “Whose Example Are You Following (and Who Is Following You)?“ Kim discusses the importance of choosing wisely who we seek to imitate. We saw in our scripture text the dangers of following the example of someone living an evil life and leading others to do the same or even worse. The Apostle Paul encouraged the church at Corinth to imitate him as he imitated Christ. Christ’s life should be the example we seek to follow and those who seek to imitate Him. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 15:32-16:28 with verses 25-26 as the focal verses: 25 But Omri did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, even more than any of the kings before him. 26 He followed the example of Jeroboam son of Nebat in all the sins he had committed and led Israel to commit. The people provoked the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, with their worthless idols. WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: Answer the questions included in this episode’s title: Whose example are you following and who is following you? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 31 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Don’t give offense to Jews or Gentiles or the church of God. 33 I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved. 1 And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. • Ep. 279: Nothing Slips God's Mind
    Jul 14 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 279, “Nothing Slips God’s Mind,“ Kim discusses the fact that nothing slips the mind of our omniscient God. In today’s lesson, we see the Lord following through on His promise to Jeroboam and his family. Although this promise would have been considered a “negative” promise to Jeroboam and his family, the promise would have been viewed as “positive” for anyone concerned about the ridding of godlessness. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 15:25-31 with verses 29-30 as the focal verses: 29 He immediately slaughtered all the descendants of King Jeroboam, so that not one of the royal family was left, just as the Lord had promised concerning Jeroboam by the prophet Ahijah from Shiloh. 30 This was done because Jeroboam had provoked the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, by the sins he had committed and the sins he had led Israel to commit. WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: Search God’s Word to find a promise you can claim today, trusting your promise-keeping God. Additional Resources and Scriptures: 14 “In addition, the Lord will raise up a king over Israel who will destroy the family of Jeroboam. This will happen today, even now! 15 Then the Lord will shake Israel like a reed whipped about in a stream. He will uproot the people of Israel from this good land that he gave their ancestors and will scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, for they have angered the Lord with the Asherah poles they have set up for worship. 16 He will abandon Israel because Jeroboam sinned and made Israel sin along with him.” (1 Kings 14:14-16)8 The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. • Ep. 278: You Missed Your Chance to...
    Jul 7 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 278, “You Missed Your Chance to…,“ Kim discusses the opportunities we miss when we do not fully trust the Lord. King Asa reigned over Judah for thirty-six years, trusting in the Lord and leading Judah to do the same. Then, his trust focus changed, looking to a heathen king for intervention. As a result of not trusting the Lord, he missed a chance to defeat Aram and multiple other opportunities. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 16:1-14 (also in 1 Kings 15) with verses 7-10 as the focal verses: “At that time Hanani the seer came to King Asa and told him, “Because you have put your trust in the king of Aram instead of in the Lord your God, you missed your chance to destroy the army of the king of Aram. Don’t you remember what happened to the Ethiopians and Libyans and their vast army, with all of their chariots and charioteers? At that time you relied on the Lord, and he handed them over to you. The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.” Asa became so angry with Hanani for saying this that he threw him into prison and put him in stocks. At that time Asa also began to oppress some of his people.” WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: In which areas of life have you missed your chance because you did not fully trust in the Lord? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
