Ep.4 - The First Forty Days with Birth/Postpartum Doula and Student Midwife Nilo Mea

  • Resumen

  • In this episode, we will talk about the importance of the first forty days postpartum and how to honor them with birth/postpartum doula and student midwife Nilo, from Handheldbirths. In today's society we often get to rush through our postpartum period. In traditional societies, these first forty days are considered sacred and a time for mother and child to bond with each other. It's also a period of rest for the mother to allow her body to recover from birth and to get used to her new identity: a mother.

In this Mama Talk, we’ll delve into:

    • Nilo’s own birth work journey while being a mother
    • how and why the postpartum traditions have been lost
    • why the first forty days postpartum are so important
    • what to do and not to do, what to eat and not to eat and so much more!

This episode is meant to inform (new) moms about the sacredness of the first forty days and to encourage them (if possible) to take it easy and slowly. It's a time of rest, bonding, healing and transition.
