Episode 3: Unrestricted Warfare, The Seige of Jadotville, and the Turkish Story of Progress

  • Resumen

  • Armed conflict with tanks and guns may have been the biggest fear for countries at one time, but now it might just be too 'old school'. Modern warfare has no restrictions and for countries, the fear extends beyond guns and tanks, and into the realm of trade war, economic war, legal war, cyber war, and more.

Nicolas Michelon, Partner at Confluence Consultants, and Amandeep Kaur Ahuja discuss the extent to which war has come to impact countries in more than the way of armed conflict, and how today's wars are based on modern technology.

But some conflicts never change, sadly. In 1960s Congo, the race for minerals led to the assassination of PM Lumumba, a UN Peacekeeping Mission and the subsequent siege of Jadotville by mercenaries. The ease with which political instability and the minerals race can dictate African geopolitics vis-a-vis the rest of the world, has stayed the same in present times.

What is different in present times is French influence in Africa- and a new surprise agent by way of Turkey and how Nicolas uncovered Turkish norms in two conferences he attended in his Turkish travels.
