Unbelievably bad journalism

Instead of doing the actual work of understanding the major issues in this story — the darkness of addiction, the susceptibility of those harmed by trauma to not just chemical dependency but to exploitation by other addicts and/or those who prey on them and a host of other issues — Strudwick presents all of his conjecture as fact or relies exclusively the painful recollections of the victims’ friends where he should have consulted experts. There is a good story here, but this telling falls to oversimplification, sensationalism and the reporter’s clear investment in affirming his thesis over building (or at least supporting) it with evidence.

insightful, informative and devastating

This is an important story of the horrors that can remain hidden from sight for a long time. When wrongdoing is committed by someone with privilege, wealth and power who has gained leverage over individuals which exist inside stigmatized communities, authorities tend to look the other way. Exposing the same predatory behaviors that the character ‘Darrien O’Connor’ from Baby Reindeer perpetrates onto Donny, this podcast takes you in a deep dive into the background of Ed Buck, how he transformed from a civil rights activist to a aggressively racist abusive murder long with interviews of those who knew him.

high-quality production, a compassionate narrator with a voice that is easy to listen to and lots to think about. does not deserve the harsh critique of the other commenter.
