  • Rob is back with another guest on his podcast, the popular DJ Smiley. Smiley is excited to share that he has been able to quit his nine-to-five job and pursue his passion of DJing full-time. Smiley is now able to focus on providing for his son and work a few days a week, making enough money to pay his bills. Smiley is also in talks with a restaurant in the Lemoore area to do a ladies night on Thursdays, with margarita specials. Smiley is excited as he looks forward to going to work and loves what he does for a living. The conversation starts with Rob saying that he finally checked out the other person's DJing, as they had been DJing every Friday for a while. He also explains that he initially hesitated to attend, as he was usually busy with his baby. Rob then explains that he and Smiley have known each other for a while, as they met through his girlfriend at the time, Smiley’s cousin. Rob found out that Smiley was already involved in music, and was working with people he deemed a higher level than him. When his girlfriend asked him to help Smiley, He agreed and started talking to him, offering advice and even recording some songs together. However, neither of them have released any of the songs yet. The conversation ends with the speaker acknowledging that they both need to get back to producing music. Two friends met in high school and reconnected after one of them posted a video on Facebook that got over 100 likes. Lil eeZ, who was a bit older than Smiley, offered to record him and the two of them were part of the Str8 Soul music group with Slick, Mario, Lil zee , Jay Hernandez, and Tato. They supported Slick's album by traveling to different cities and passing out his tape. They also did a music video for a song called Work Hard well before he recorded a track with Lil Zee. They all linked up at the Longfield Center for a show and pulled up deep with a group of like 15 people. In this conversation, Rob & Smiley discuss the local music scene in the Central Valley of California. They talk about how Fizzle was recording a track and how MD produced it. The two then discuss how the local music scene is divided and how there is a lack of collaboration between local artists. They mention how artists from other cities, such as Atlanta and New York, are able to come together and create successful music scenes. The conversation then switches to how the DJ Smiley, the speaker, is trying to help out local artists by playing their music. He encourages them to send him multiple tracks so he can listen and make a decision on which one to play. The conversation ends with the speaker mentioning how fatherhood has changed him and made him reassess his priorities.
