Discover how to pave your academic path towards a research degree while unraveling the secrets of architectural innovation.Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, a student aspiring to delve into design thinking, or an educator looking to enhance your teaching skills, this video offers invaluable insights from an expert who has dedicated her career to shaping the future of architectural design through thoughtful and transformative education. Don't miss out on this incredible learning opportunity with Architect Arulmalar Ramaraj. Hit play and let your design thinking journey unfold! In 2001, I completed Her undergraduate degree in architecture from the School of Architecture and Planning. Later, in 2003, I pursued my Master's in Town Planning (MTP) from France. Since then, She has been associated with Satya Bhuma, and this journey has been a long and enriching one. Reflecting on my experiences, it's astonishing to observe the transformation in how they frame problem briefs and engage with subjects over the years. In the early years, the process of framing problem briefs was different and less mature compared to the present. However, with time, She has witnessed a significant evolution. Today, we emphasize adding layers to the briefs and engaging students with tasks within the classroom itself. These small tasks encourage critical thinking and contribute to the learning process.Teaching methodologies have also evolved, and it's evident how instructors have transformed over the years. New topics and courses offer diverse learning opportunities for students. Over an extended period, say five to eight years, one can achieve substantial growth in understanding complex subjects and tackling creative challenges. In her case, managing 10-day design critics has been instrumental in connecting seemingly random dots. Initially, it might appear perplexing, but over time, everything aligns and connects, providing a coherent thread to one's experiences and growth.A key aspect of an educator's role is documenting the design process effectively and framing the design brief thoughtfully. This practice opens up opportunities for publishing emerging outcomes and the design process in journals. However, publishing in scientific journals, especially in the realm of architecture, presents its own set of challenges.Scientific writing demands a rigorous approach. It's essential to justify the chosen methodology and validate observations with numerical data. This approach involves being strong in mathematics to ensure the reliability and validity of the research findings. In the realm of architecture research, the journey has become interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary. Researchers are exploring diverse fields like material science and climate studies. Integrating research, practice, and academics is vital for advancing knowledge and addressing current challenges. One of the challenges in the Indian context is securing funding for architectural research. While other domains may receive more funding, architecture research, especially related to building forms and materials, faces hurdles in this regard. Encouraging collaboration and exploring innovative uses of waste materials can be potential avenues for research.Experimentation and experiential learning are crucial in architecture education. Practical tasks involving recontextualization of waste materials can ignite students' creativity and help them explore unconventional solutions. Such hands-on experiences foster soft skills, teamwork, and critical thinking, enhancing the learning process. In conclusion, pursuing a career in architecture requires passion, a strong work ethic, and continuous development of aptitude and abilities. The journey may seem chaotic initially, but with dedication and the right mindset, all the dots will connect to form a meaningful and fulfilling trajectory. The talk give us insights into the speaker's architectural journey, educational experiences, and views on the evolving landscape of architecture and research. The speaker emphasizes the importance of passion, hard work, and adaptability in the architectural profession and highlights the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative approaches in architectural education and research.#ArchitectureEducation #DesignThinking #CreativityInArchitecture #ArchitecturalCurriculum #InnovativeArchitecture #ArchitectureStudents #DesignProcess
