Imani’s work dives deep into Black culture in the South and the African diaspora, using storytelling to explore themes of folklore, fantasy, and hidden histories. We talk about her upbringing in Louisville, Kentucky, her time at Howard University, and how these experiences shaped her artistic voice. Imani shares her love for documentary filmmaking and photography, and we discuss her latest film, The People Could Fly, which highlights the history of roller rink culture in Louisville and its significance as a community space.
