  • Parade of Grafters Ep12 - Frank Turner (The Hardcore Years)
    Jul 20 2024

He's mentioned his past in Hardcore bands fleetingly, but Frank Turner's never gone DEEP on the subject. So that's exactly what we did.

We knew each other in the late 90s when we were both falling in love with the Hardcore-Punk thing as teenagers, and have stayed in contact over his incredible journey so far, so I felt in as good a place as anyone to tackle this subject with him.

Hope you enjoy the chat, and be sure to check out the bands we talk on. Many won't have stuff on Spotify, but if you give Bandcamp and YouTube a look you'll usually find something

  • Parade of Grafters Ep11 - Ani Patterson (Bars of Leeds)
    Jul 20 2024

Ani and I met when she was working Santiago Bar eight or so years ago. She's since worked a whole bunch of other bars, as well as pursuing a career in Psychology.

We chatted on the ups & downs of bar life, loads of chat about the Leeds scene in general, and of course, issues around Mental Health in the Hospitality industry Ani had some fantastic ideas on things the industry could do to improve the risks to mental health issues that workers face.

It's great to see more people talking about this (as ever, check out White Fox Talking podcast!), but there's a whole bunch more that could be done Hope you enjoy our chat

  • Parade of Grafters Ep9 - Brewer/Blender Tom Plant
    Dec 17 2023

I think I first met Tom around 2019 when we were both working for Northern Monk - him in the ground-floor brewery, and me at the first-floor taproom

He's worked a variety of brewies across the North in the past decade, and has run the beer podcast, Beernomicon, for the past 6 or so years - this becoming a brewery of sorts under its Cvlt of Independence collab series

He's the person I'd always go to if I had a serious question about literally anything beer-related, so it was fantastic to finally dig into where all this knowledge has come from, and yes, why is he now making cider. And how do you make cider? And is it a Cidery or something else I can't think up?!

    Let's find out

  • Parade of Grafters Ep7 - Bartender Jim
    May 20 2023

Jim joined us to give insights into the ways and wanderings of a hardcore kid slangin shots at the wildest of Leeds' party bars. There's clearly a world of creativity brewing just under the surface of this seemingly nihilistic wild child of the bar scene, and I cannot wait to see where he takes this in the future. Enjoy our chat, and find him at Santiago Bar in Grand Arcade (Leeds)
