Friday Family Film Night: ORDINARY PEOPLE review

  • Resumen

  • In which the Mister joins me in reviewing ORDINARY PEOPLE (1980), from the writers Alvin Sargent and Nancy Dowd (uncredited), from Judith Guest's novel, the film is directed by Robert Redford and garnered 4 Oscars (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing/Screenplay based on Material from another Medium and Best Supporting Actor). Conrad Jarrett (Timothy Hutton) struggles with the guilt of going on after a tragic accident claims the life of his older brother, as his mother (an electrifying Mary Tyler Moore) does her best to maintain the shattered illusion of a perfect family and his father (the late, great Donald Sutherland) tries to keep the family together. The film has a run time of 2 h and 4 m, is rated R and is currently streaming on Max and also available to buy/rent on Prime Video. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
