  • Rhetoric and Information Warfare
    Jun 14 2024

Today, legacy media outlets and traditional authoritative sources are no longer the exclusive gatekeepers and curators of information narratives, a reality that stems from a trend Gartner refers to as the “Decline of the Authoritative Narrative.” Furthermore, the rise of digital technologies and new media platforms has enabled everyone to create, editorialize, and instantaneously distribute “news” along with often contradicting or misleading reports from states, organizations, and businesses. This information warfare contributes to the decline of authoritative narratives and public trust in traditional information sources.

In this episode of the Gartner Futures Lab podcast, host Marty Resnick sits down with Bill Hart-Davidson and Jim Ridolfo, both of whom edited the book “Rhet Ops,” and Gartner Senior Principal of Research Benjamin Arnberg to discuss the current and future states of information warfare and what it could mean to enterprises, industries and the world overall.

Benjamin Arnberg is a senior principal of research for enterprise architecture and technology innovation and joined Gartner after spending three years as faculty in Auburn University’s College of Education. There he taught graduate-level courses in higher education administration, educational research methods and social foundations of education. His publications focused on inclusion policy and practice, qualitative research methodology and critical theory. Prior to serving as faculty, Benjamin worked in Auburn’s Division of Student Affairs as an advisor to media and communications.
