Elizabeth was accused of the murder and torture of young girls, and can boast of a death toll of somewhere between 120 and 650 victims. The aging widow was said to have traveled the Hungarian countryside in search of young flesh to play with, she would then bathe in the blood of her innocent victims to stay young and beautiful forever. After her arrest, Bathory was sentenced to a slow death, and was walled up in a room in her castle to pay for her atrocious crimes. Were these simply lies and conspiracies told to discredit an influential and wealthy member of the Hungarian elite or was the countess really a blood thirsty vampire searching for eternal youth?
