But we would love to have you come along as we journey throughout the greatest artform in history, cinema! We are going through the process of watching movies, discussing their ins, outs, themes, cinematography, directors, actors, how the film made us FEEL. • Deadpool & Wolverine Review + Deadpool Rankings and LONGLEGS Deep Dive
    Aug 20 2024

Deadpool and Wolverine review and Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Deadpool 3 aka Deadpool & Wolverine RANKINGS with Ryan Reynolds (lol jk, maybe)! We battle it out over the solo MCU film of 2024, our beloved rated R superhero teams up with his real life friend in 4th wall breaking, non 4 quadrant, no stakes mashup of Reddit jokes and 2000s Marvel movie characters! OR, as my cohost argues, one of the most important super hero movies ever and a potential reset to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we debate if Galactus looms all the closer!

Love letter or goodbye letter to our Fox superheros!? Let us know your thoughts in a 5-star ranking comment please! Plus, a little Fantastic Four and Doomsday discussion with a little sprinkle of James Gunn's Superman!

Look, Bobby gets SUPER NERDY and goes deep into the character of Deadpool from the comics all the way to the once silver screen, and I have a blast listening- I think you will too! Come learn some Deadpool in a very deep dive.

    Also, Hugh Jackman is eternal.

Up next, Oz Perkins and Nicholas Cage! Have your attention? Let's also add the incredibly talented and next woman up, Maika Monroe, with the always amazing and underused Blair Underwood. Longlegs is the horror movie of the year, maybe the last five if you take into account the chokehold this horror flick has had on the internet and twitter / X the last few months. BUT... does 'Longlegs' live up to the immense hype?!

We have a heated debating over Longlegs, with me coming to the defense of this potentially mis-marketed procedural of DREAD! Is it Seven and Silence of the Lamb's step-son? Or a swing and a miss? Come with us and let's take a journey to the man under the stairs and find out for ourselves. We spoil the movies in this episode. But we do so with a purpose! Because we dive DEEP into Longlegs and bring up some super cool things you may have missed, there is so much awesomeness going on in this film!

Also, Osgood Perkins is the infamous son of Psycho star Anthony Perkins, but there is a lot more than meets the eye in his upbringing. We discuss how much of that made its way into this film, and we beg the question... how far would you go to protect your kid?

Please consider leaving a 5-star review and comment because WE LOVE YOU! AND MOVIES! And we truly appreciate you and your time, and can't wait to watch more movies than you and with you! See ya people.

  • A Quiet Place: Day One, The Beast (2023), and Seconds (1966) Movie Review and Deep Dives
    Jul 8 2024

From John Krasinski's rockstar directorial debut, A Quiet Place (2018), we had a new kind of horror born- blind aliens with super(alien) human hearing- high level concept, baby! We then had a sequel, and now we are given A Quiet Place: Day One by Michael Sarnoski (The Pig) and starring the always amazing Lupita Nyong'o, Stranger Thing's Joseph Quinn, and an amazing cat named Frodo! We talk through a quick and spoiler-free movie review that we hope you enjoy!

What if David Lynch wrote and directed an adaptation of Bill Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? We may never have that answer, but we have an entry here that is just as powerful and out-there as that would be- Bertrand Bonello's The Beast. La bête in French, the film's native tongue. Starring potentially the greatest actress of all time, the haunting and wonderful Lea Seydoux, along side a tense and nearly magical performance turned in by George MacKay. 'The Beast' debuted in festivals in 2023, but truly got theatrical release and distribution in 2024, and you absolutely CANNOT miss this incredible film. Come along as we dive deep down into the wonderland of ghosts, fate, and time-travel in an absolutely unforgettable and suffocatingly unique movie.. The Beast aka La bête. Again, Léa Seydoux, you're sold?

We finish the episode with a stone-cold classic you've probably never even heard of, the absolutely terrifying Seconds which came out in 1966 directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Frank Campanella, the always fantastic John Randolph.. and oh ya, ROCK HUDSON!! Horror fans, kino fans, old Hollywood fans, cinema lovers, do NOT let your life go by without watching and traveling to the black and white nightmare that is 'Seconds.' A little bit Twilight Zone, a bit of a cerebral dive into the American dream, but entirely human and soul-wrenching. Please listen join us as we adventure into the beautifully demented mind of Frankenheimer, the out-of-body performance by one of the greatest actors to ever grace Hollywood, Rock Hudson, and allow yourself introspection as you witness one of the most horrifying questions ever be asked and played out on your screen- What if it's all not enough? Seconds evocates an all too human feeling that we hide deeply buried in our souls, experience this film for yourself- we guarantee you won't leave it the same as you went into it. Seconds (1966) is what movies are all about, discover this gem. And for the real, real cinema & kino nerds, this is Frankenheimer's conclusion to his paranoia trilogy, and by far his most weird and amazing!

Also, huge shout out to the Criterion Channel for the recommendation for Seconds!

And, as always, we watch WAY more movies than you! See you people! If you love us like we love you, please consider sharing us with your amazing mothers and dropping a 5-star review! THANKS!

  • The Simulation Theory in Cinema: 'World on a Wire' and 'The Matrix'
    Jun 21 2024

What if I told you that a movie came out in Germany in 1973 is still the greatest depiction of the Simulation Theory, and not only does it surpass The Matrix (1999), but gave birth to it? Let us introduce you to Rainer Werner Fassbinder's World on a Wire (Welt am Draht).

The Criterion Collection twitter / X handle recommended me 'World on a Wire' based on my love for Kubrick, and boy did they hit the nail on the head. World on a Wire stars the amazing Klaus Lowitsch, Barbara Valentine, Mascha Rabben, and was the only sci-fi entry for the amazing and tragic Fassbinder, who shot this film at 27 and unfortunately only lived 10 more years afterwards.

World on a Wire depicts the source material 'Simulacron-3' beautifully, with gorgeously antiquated and charming camera work (long shots and odd angles, making it difficult to even depict the subject of a given scene) that truly transports you into the future, which is given life on the set using beautiful brutalist architecture with a 2001: A Space Odyssey aesthetic coated over it, oh.. and a lot of mirrors. Fassbinder loved mirrors.

Couple the immensely gifted directing, cinematography, and unique distinctive style with the philosophical depth, the rediscovery and background to this film, and its outsized influence on science fiction in cinema, and you truly have a CAN NOT MISS motion picture. World on a Wire is 3 and a half hours of pure cinematic goodness and I cannot recommend it enough, thanks Criterion- I immediately purchased their edition! #physicalmedia

But one cannot discuss 'World on a Wire' without discussing the Wachowski's 1999 cult classic 'The Matrix.' Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving breath life into this cybernetic masterpiece that truly defined a generation and is still going strong in cinematic discourse to this day, hence why it's on our pod!

The Matrix needs no introduction, but I encourage you to journey with us as we show you its daddy, World on a Wire, and also celebrate the beautiful juxtaposition of these two films and although they both play with the simulation theory, they have completely different outcomes and reads.

The Matrix is more than a visually stunning film, it is Plato's Allegory of the Cave come to life, the internet and all of the fear and angst as we barreled into the millennia come to the silver screen, and even large than that.... red pill or blue pill?

Peak behind the curtain of the Matrix and plug in and let's follow the white rabbit down the hole, you won't regret it. And please consider giving us a 5-star review if you enjoy our movie reviews, deep dives, and true exploration through this science fiction dystopian playing out real time as I type this films. These are simulation theory juggernauts, but there is so, so much more than meets the eye.

Movie lovers, let's ride! Or.... are you going to stay in wonderland?
