Keeping the Beat Alive: Zoro's Drumming Journey from Poverty to Stardom

  • Resumen

  • After watching the movie La Bamba, I dreamed of playing the guitar. But my dreams were quickly shattered after a couple of lessons—I have zero musical ability. My guest today, however, is Zoro the Drummer, whose incredible four-decade career proves he definitely does have that special something. Zoro has performed with icons like Lenny Kravitz, Bobby Brown, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, New Edition, and Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire. We'll dive into his remarkable journey that was inspired by his mother, which he writes about in his new book. Maria's Scarf is a love letter to his immigrant mother. Before the age of nine, his single mother had moved her seven children more than thirty times—from the impoverished streets of South-Central Los Angeles to rural Oregon and everywhere in between. But somehow, he persevered and became known as one of the greatest R&B drummers in the world. While my rockstar dreams fizzled, Zoro shows how dedication and passion can keep the beat of your dreams alive.
