  • At the beginning of the 20th century, numerous adventurers set out to conquer the poles. They wanted to be the first to discover this or that island, to claim it in the name of their country. Some expeditions were better prepared than others, and many lost their lives in the dreaded Arctic ice. One of the least hospitable Arctic islands is Wrangel, off the coast of Siberia. In 1926, a temperature of - 57°C was recorded there. A real challenge for extreme adventurers (ant that's quite the understatement).
