  • 009 – How to Future-proof Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with Dr. Srinivasa Chandra
    Mar 29 2021
Marcus Hwang discusses the future of OMS training with Dr. Srinivasa Chandra. They try to answer the question "how do you future-proof your learning?". Does your specific profession mean anything anymore or is the future of healthcare based on the chief complaint? Patients are more knowledgeable now, but they still present with a chief complaint of "my jaw is too small" or "I'm missing a lower molar". Patients rarely present to a provider and say "I need an oral surgeon" or "I need an interventional radiologist". The question is this. What matters more: the scope defined by your profession or the specific problems you can solve with your specific skills? Dr. Chandra is currently an associate professor of surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He finished his dental training at Manipal University College of Dental Surgery in Manglalore, India before finishing his OMS residency in Bangalore, India. He obtained his medical degree from the St. George's University School of Medicine in London, United Kingdom. Upon arriving to the United States, Chandra was trained in OMS again at the University of Nebraska Medical center. He then completed a fellowship in head and neck oncologic surgery and microvascular reconstruction at the University of Florida College of Medicine under the tutelage of Dr. Rui Fernandes.
