I love this duo!

Great stories on a niche theme

I LOVE "Lost in the Woods" and was so thrilled to find it. I'm an outdoors girl who also loves true crime, and I was so excited to discover a podcast that blends both of these interests. The crime stories are told really well, and the research they do is excellent. I also like how they include anecdotes from their own outdoor adventures and bits of information about different parks, trails, etc. And they don't give away the culprit, if there is one, until the end. Some podcasts do that and it takes all the suspense away.

I'm really confused about the critical reviews on this podcast. Yes, there is some back-and-forth banter between mother and daughter. That's....kind of what podcasts are about? It's not scripted like a TV episode. And they always cut back to the story pretty quickly. And yes, there's occasional foul language. But I think some listeners don't realize that the daughter is actually an adult? So....she can do that? Also, how is someone ok listening to stories about people getting lost / murdered / decapitated, but a couple F bombs is pushing it over the edge? Idk. But definitely go check this podcast out!

Story is lost in the chatter

The mother-daughter duo attempts to tell stories on "missing and murdered hikers and backpackers" per their description, but it never feels like the story is told. There is so much back-and-forth between the speakers that it never feels cohesive. A few annoying aspects of the podcast is the mother constantly correcting the daughter on mispronunciations of words, telling her those aren't words, and other nitpicking bits. It's not funny or quirky at all .... part of this comes from the fact that the podcast does not sound practiced or well-edited. Maybe it is. Maybe they think the mom correcting the daughter is endearing, but it doesn't feel that way.

Another issue is them calling things crazy. Be better than that. If someone has a mental illness, discuss that. Or use a better descriptor.

Again, the main problem with the podcast is a total lack of storytelling. Too much jabber.

Disrespectful

I guess foul language is "in" these days, but I found it distracting and irritating especially coming from an immature teenager in the presence of her mother. All the laughing and giggling and joking is inappropriate in a discussion of such a recent and tragic event.
