MI Comics Corner

De: William Wells
  • Resumen

  • I have been a comic collector for a few decades and I want to share what I have read during that time. Comics have now become a part of pop culture, and I am using my voice to help bring people together with the beauty of these books.

  • Popeye the Sailor Man (Are you eating your Spinach?)
    Jun 28 2024

You know I was watching Rocky 4 and Brigitte Nielsen mentioned how Ivan Drago ate his Spinach....like Popeye. Later, I was rewatching Dr. Strange 2 and thought about how Elizabeth Olsen was connected to the Olsen twins and Full House. Man Dave Coulier did a Popeye impersonation like every episode. Then I saw someone wearing a Popeye shirt. So I guess a few people know about Popeye, but let's talk about :).

  • Before Punky Brewster and Dennis the Menace, there was Little Orphan Annie
    Jun 21 2024

Thank you for listening, as today I talk about Little Orphan Annie. This comic strip has one of the first characters in comics and would have one interesting journey. From comic strip to being one of the top Broadway musicals, Annie has left a mark throughout the world. In this episode, I challenge you to think of where you might have heard of either song "Tomorrow" or "Hard Knock Life". Hopefully you learn something from this.

Note: No Michigan moment here except for the fact that the musical Annie has been in Michigan quite a few times. It's last time was in the historic Fox Theater, located in Detroit. If you haven't been down to the Fox Theater, highly recommend for the experience.

  • Juneteenth special: Killadelphia
    Jun 15 2024

Join me today as I talk about a comic book series that is entertaining and a little thought provoking. With violence, poverty, and corruption running rampant through his hometown, a young officer finds something far worse below the surface. Thank you for taking the time to listen and hopefully you learn something.
