#289 - Experienced CDT thru hikers tell those who wish to hike this longest of the Triple Crown American trails to "embrace the brutality". It's the longest and the hardest of the three. This week, I talk about the trail, including the history, what makes it so tough, the few FKTs and why it is of interest to runners! We are so blessed to have these incredible trails and even if it's just for an afternoon hike, make a section of the CDT be on your bucket list!

Also, don't miss my adventure at Mt Tamalpais this past weekend! It was quite an experience. And this time, it didn't involve the ER, thankfully!

#288 - Jenna Burris is a licensed professional counselor and trail runner. She's found a way to combine her love of nature with her love of helping people and invented the term Trail Therapist. Though she didn't start Eco Therapy, she is a part of this new field in therapy and it's refreshing to hear about a new way to help patients. She shares this and more in this week's episode. Therapy is very much needed in our world and it's nice to know that someone is offering an alternative to a stuffy office!

  • The Downfall of Nike
    Jul 16 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

#287 - With the creation of the Internationalist running shoe in 1980, Nike created a road running shoe that helped spark the tsunami of running that even today hasn't stopped. But by the mid-1980s, Nike realized that there was a lot more money to be made outside of running; lots and lots more money. They abandoned running for the greener pastures of trendy fashion. That was the corporation's first step away from running for Nike.

Throughout the years, Nike has had several missteps, some perhaps not deliberate, but many, could have been handled in better, more appropriate ways. In this week's episode, I talk about Nike's downfall as it relates only to running. Of course, they have had other problems not-running related. I'll leave that for other shows.

Much of the information I talk about comes from Kara Goucher's book "The Longest Race". There is a link on the show website if you would like to purchase a copy.

#286 - We runners have lots of habits. Some are not helping us achieve our running goals. This week, I help you improve your training by eliminating the habits that are hurting your running and I also give you some positive reinforcement by giving you some positive habits that you should continue! Many of these I've covered in past episodes, but none have been brought together in one episode. No matter how experienced a runner you are, it's never too early or too late to improve our running!

  • Pre & Post Race Stuff!
    Jun 25 2024

#284 - There are A LOT of things we can do to prepare for a race, or a long training run. I'm including training runs in this episode as well, as the preparation and recovery are usually the same things, aren't they? Many things we can prepare, other things we can purchase (who said running is a cheap sport???). Maybe you do some of these things already and others you hadn't thought about. In any case, it's fun to think about some alternative ways to do things and to give it a new perspective!

    Jun 18 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

#283 - Dr George Sheehan was a venerable fixture in the 1980s running world. He was a columnist in the once-great Runners World magazine and many of us looked towards his wisdom and incredible running monthly. This week, I talk about his writing, his running and how he enriched many of our lives.

I finish the episode with a race report from my first race of the year, Coastal Trail Races' San Francisco Half Day race in the SF Presidio! It was a wonderful day! I'm so happy to be back running and racing!

  • 19 Years Sober!! What Being Sober Means to Me!
    Jun 11 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

#282 - Each year, I like to spend an episode reflecting on sobriety and running and what it all means. In an era where alcohol and drugs are pushed on us in nearly every facet of our lives, it's good to take a step back and see if they are helping or hurting us. I have never hidden my sobriety, it's extremely important to me and I share some reasons why in this episode.

If you would like to become sober and need help I am here for you. You can contact me through the show website.
