  • Clamp Down on Black Market Operators in the Forex Trade

    Economics professor Godfred Bokpin is warning that the new measures by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to clamp down on black market operators in the forex trade may not succeed in stopping the depreciation of the Ghana cedi to stabilise the economy. In its latest directives, all persons wishing to transact forex business must do so with a Ghana Card, and unlicensed operators will be arrested and prosecuted.

    The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and Richard Jakpa, the 3rd accused in the ongoing ambulance case. This 2:1 decision overturned the previous order from the trial court, which required Dr. Ato Forson and Jakpa to open their defence. He had been charged with allegedly causing financial loss of €2.37 million to the State in a deal to procure ambulances for the Government of Ghana.
