  • 61- 86_Actual: American and Canadian Gun Culture (Same Same, But Different)
    Jul 17 2024

We as Canadians often compare ourselves to our neighbours to the south. But we figured we might as well talk to our homie from the USA to see what he thinks about the two different types of gun cultures.

Meet Joey (86_Actual). Our local homie who's a red blooded American that ended up in Canada. Joey spent some time in the USMC before eventually winding up in Canada working at a local mom and pop gun store. We thought he would be the perfect person to discuss the topic of American versus Canadian gun cultures with. Joey brings some interesting stories and perspectives that he's been privy to in his time on earth.

One of the topics that Joey brings up is the important stage that Canadian gun culture is at when it comes to growth and how we are currently at a pivotal moment. Joey talks about how the actions of every gun owner in Canada play a part in this growth and in his perspective, what we are doing right and what we need to improve on.

  • 60- J.Doesnt.Raid: Beginners Guide to Decentralized Communications
    Jun 26 2024

    Hello, friend....

Sorry, we still have some "Mr.Robot" vibes in us after talking to J.Doesnt.Raid on this episode of the MCS Podcast. Our guest on this episode is Jorden, or J.Doesnt.Raid on Instagram. He's just your average real estate agent who likes to shoot and get behind the camera from time to time. But one thing that he's been doing lately is learn about how the world we live in is all just radio waves, and how to take advantage of that.

Jordan has been learning and building his knowledge base on things like decentralized communications through things like ATAK or Meshtastic. Two very useful tools that a community of people can use to communicate with in situations where cell service may not be possible. Jordan and Taylor have a very intriguing discussion as well as knowledge dump on how someone new to this world can get started off and what is required.

From there the conversation shifts into things like OSINT and cyber security. Jordan stresses the importance of password management and how easy it is for hackers to gain personal information from websites that you might trust. He also talks about certain ways how ill willed people might "social engineer" an individual and some of the tools at their disposal. On the other side of the conversation, he informs Pat and Taylor of a website that informs people if their personal information has been leaked. After using this tool, Pat's dislike of Oakley grows even more.

This is an episode that will really opens the listeners mind and possibly help them realize how vulnerable they are to malicious actors on the internet.

  • 59- Daniel Fritter of Calibre Magazine: Learning from History and what the Future Holds for Canadian Gun Owners
    Jun 19 2024

There's a chance that you have some literature in your house right now that was written and published by this episode's guest. Daniel Fritter hops on the MCS Podcast to talk about Calibre Magazine, the political situation that gun owners are dealing with, and his views on how gun ownership will change in the coming years.

In this episode, Pat and Daniel Fritter delve into the pressing issues faced by young Canadians, including the high cost of living, housing affordability, and the perceived breakdown of the social contract. They reflect on the unfulfilled promises made to their generation in high school regarding job security and homeownership, painting a picture of a society where taxes are high, services are lacking, and issues like crime and drugs use are more visible.

Later in the episode, the discussion transitions to the significant shift in attitudes towards self-defense and gun ownership in Canada in recent years. Daniel recounts the story of Ali Mian, who faced significant legal fees despite all charges against him being dropped, illustrating the financial and legal challenges of self-defense cases.

The hosts emphasize the importance of seeking multiple layers of security for home protection and stress the need to demonstrate to the legal system that using a firearm was a last resort. They discuss the increasing perception among Canadians, especially new gun owners, that firearms are necessary for personal security due to rising crime rates and the perceived inadequacy of police protection.

The conversation also delves into the systemic issues contributing to the rise in crime, such as money laundering, the illegal drug trade, and the inadequacies of the justice system. Daniel warns that without significant changes to reduce crime rates, Canadians' attitudes towards self-defense and firearms will continue to shift, leading to more legal firearm owners defending themselves with deadly force.

Throughout the episode, the hosts provide valuable insights and perspectives on these complex and timely issues, offering listeners a thought-provoking exploration of contemporary Canadian society.

    May 29 2024

It's not often that you get to have a former Canadian Tier 1 operator on your show, let alone talk to one. But on this episode, we get the pleasure of doing just that! Randy Turner comes on to the MCS Podcast to talk about his Ottawa based training company "Direct Action Combat", as well as talk about his philosophy when it comes to training and being prepared.

Randy spent 16 years in JTF 2, Canada's world renowned Tier 1 special operations unit as an assaulter. After leaving the Canadian Forces in 2019, he went on to start Direct Action Combat. Randy and Pat share some of their experiences and approaches when it comes to firearms training in Canada, both from the perspective of the student and the instructor.

Randy and Pat recall recent events that stand out in their minds as catalysts for change when it comes to the average person being prepared.

From there, the discussion shifts to concentric rings of security when it comes to one's personal safety when at home. Using recent events, the two dive into their philosophies and thought processes on what that should look like and how the average person can set themselves up for success.
