Howdy, Howdy, Welcome to Moe’s World - The Baseball Podcast. Yep. Another Baseball podcast. Here we talk about Baseball like a few friends sitting at the bar. We welcome your input and invite you to send us text messages from the Buzzsprouts website.

This week I snuck in an episode so we could talk a little about the All-Star Game and the 1st Half Results. You know, regardless of the outcome of the game you have to appreciate the fact that watching the All-Star Game you can say to yourself…this is a REAL game. I mean the NHL game and format sucks to watch and it’s painful to watch for the goalies. The NFL was such a joke of a game, they don’t even bother anymore. The NBA? I think the arenas showing the games live needed 4 digits for scores it was such a joke. But Baseball? Shit, at least the GAME is played for REAL. There is always something that grabs my eye about the game, whether it’s a new first-time player making a great play or a veteran of the home team park coming through for the fans. This past week's game was no exception. But looking at the game's box score I see…20 position players and 9 pitchers got in the game for the American League. That’s 29 players in the game. That to me is truly CRAZY. It’s a testament to the rule changes that this game ONLY took 2:28 to finish!

    OK...Let's get into it!

I felt the need to sneak this episode in this week. So today we will have episodes 5 & 6 available for download. In today’s 6th episode, we will look at a topic that is not getting much play on the Baseball front. The sources of how sports teams and leagues make money have not changed much over the past 40 years. Tickets, sponsorships, and broadcast rights remain the main buckets of revenue, while concessions, parking, merchandise, and non-team events fill out the income statement. However, the current state of affairs of the RSN is changing. OK, let’s get into it…

In today’s 5th episode we will look at MLB vs MiLB. The locations, logistics and history. There are 208 minor league teams, and most are affiliated now with MLB teams. Minor league baseball teams, also known as 'farm teams', are teams made up of players under the control of a major league team, from either signing them as a free agent or by drafting them. Every major league team has a branching system of minor league teams that feed players up to the majors. There a four basic levels of the minor leagues consisting of…

Today’s 4th episode will look at the results of the 2023 Rule Changes. We have had a season and almost half of the rule changes, so what do we think? I’ll tell ya, I’m a fan of all of them. Some have worked out better than others, but all in all, I like them. Especially the pitch clock. If you visit Minor League teams at all, you have seen how it moves the game along and takes nothing away. Oh, wait…before I jump into this, maybe I need to give you a refresher on what the rule changes were.

Today’s 2nd episode will also be kinda analytical in discussing The Impossible Record. The Impossible Record? Yep, the one record that will just be forgotten as a stat. Never to be approached or talked about. What is it? The career record of COMPLETE GAMES. It is held by Cy Young, with a total of 749. That’s INSANE right? Cy Young got the top pitcher award named after him for a reason! So this is an old time sounding name? You are correct. Cy Young pitched from 1890 (age 23) to 1911 (age 44). It was a ridiculous era of baseball for sure. I don’t usually consider records until the “modern” era of baseball in the 1920’s, but come on…this stats are insane. Cy Young ALSO had 511 wins, oh sure that’s attainable as well. Lol. He threw a career number of 7356 innings. Ahhh, that’s not bad for an average of 334 innings PER year! Today though let’s talk about Complete Games. Remember that stat? If you have a chance look up the career of Cy Young on my favorite Baseball site, https://www.baseball-reference.com/.

  • Moe’s World Season1-Episode1- Ted Williams OPS Rockstar

Howdy, Howdy, Welcome to Moe’s World Podcast. Yep. Another Baseball podcast. Here we talk about Baseball like a few friends sitting at the bar. We welcome your input to help improve us and make us grow. Today’s episode will be kinda analytical in discussing OPS. Seems we are inundated with .190 batting averages now in the Major Leagues…Thanks Joey Gallo, so average is not a topic. But, OPS? Interesting, right? Looking at OPS it’s obvious who is the career leader is, Babe Ruth. But, come on, The Babe was a freak, so let’s talk about the guy who was hated by the media, never acknowledged the crowds and fans but could HIT…TED WILLIAMS. Now, we have all ages of listeners in here, but I do hope everyone knows about Ted Williams? If not, look him up on my favorite Baseball site, https://www.baseball-reference.com/.
