From the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women movement to high COVID cases, the impact of historical trauma continues to affect native people in Utah today.  But along with the pain, a legacy of resiliency has been handed down from generation to generation.

Utah is ranked among the last in the nation for access to affordable child care. Parents seeking care for children under the age of six can pay upwards of $1,400 a month per child. These high costs aren’t just affecting families, but the economy as well, as mothers struggle to succeed in the workforce.

Finding role models can be difficult when you don’t ever see people that look like you in the media.  But Woke Words, a writing and reading program for women, femme, and non-binary artists 15 years and older, is changing the narrative.  By highlighting diverse female authors, the group provides a safe space for young black, indigenous, and women of color.
