  • 106. How to Fix your Failures with Big Fish Booking Agency : Musicians Tip Jar
    Jul 23 2024
Today we complete our interview with Tina and Chris from Big Fish Booking Agency. They demonstrate how every problem has a solution, just as every failure is filled with opportunity. Big Fish Booking Company is an artist-run boutique agency based in Chicago that specializes in booking and artist management.

Owners Chris Weller and Tina Priceman started booking shows for themselves and some of their close friends under the guise of Big Fish in 2016 in an effort to better support their own musical endeavors. The hard work and “fake it till you make it” attitude slowly paid off as new artists were signed and the Big Fish network expanded. Big Fish Booking Company has grown into an international agency supporting the careers of many world-renowned artists, including (but not limited to) The Bad Plus, Nate Smith, Makaya McCraven, Kurt Elling and Melanie Charles. Big Fish prides itself on having a well-rounded approach to supporting musicians, as they understand first-hand the sacrifice and hard work it takes to build a touring career. Less than 10 years in, Big Fish has no intention of slowing down In the last episode, we explored how Big Fish built their booking agency and today we take that journey to what happens next, they expand. Also, here we highlight the power of social media, the niche nuances of the Jazz world and some solid advice from Tina and Chris that all musicians should hear. Lets GO!

We felt it appropriate to make today's episode about the true meaning of wealth. We throw the word around a lot and felt it’s important that we clarify what it truly means to be a wealthy musician.
Today’s discussion is based on the eight forms of wealth by Robin Sharma in his book; “The Wealth money can’t buy.” We break down his 8 pillars and apply them to our lives as musicians so we can improve our chances to live this one life to the fullest.

Quote:“True Wealth is found in Contentment” - unknown

Roots Music Project is a non-profit community of music fans and music makers. We believe in the power of music to make the world a better place. We provide performance opportunities, education, artist development, community building, and empowerment. Learn More at rootsmusicproject.org

We spend so much time talking about money, how to make it and how to manage it. These are very important skills to develop! But there is a bigger picture in the pursuit of happiness, of achieving true wealth. Sharma’s 8 pillars are a fantastic organization of what makes up the foundation of living a rich life. Lets go!
