  • Season 1 of Understanding Mythology finishes with myths as expressions of religious ritual. Today we look into the practical religious application of mythology and see how myth charters ritualistic norms and its significance. Mankind all over the world has desired a link to heaven in order to know how to properly conduct themselves and to ensure further sustenance. Specifically, we look into sacrifice, initiation, purification and rituals pertaining to seasonal renewal as our four major components of religious ritual as they are presented to us in mythology.
