  • Ned Hillsdale sat at his desk, the city’s evening lights casting long shadows across his office. The note tied around the ball of string, the haunting message from the Marionette, sat ominously on his desk. Weeks had passed since the Puppeteer’s arrest and the subsequent escape of the Marionette, but the anxiety had only grown with time. The city seemed to be holding its breath, waiting for the next move in this deadly game of cat and mouse. Special Agent Rebecca Morrow had assured Ned that the FBI was doing everything in its power to locate the Marionette, but both she and Ned knew that this was not a foe who would be easily found. The Puppeteer, now confined to a maximum-security prison, had been less than cooperative during interrogation, hinting at a larger plan but never revealing the full extent of his schemes.
