  • Kendra Aarhus: How to Take Yourself and Your Business Seriously
    Feb 23 2023

Today’s episode my long-time business partner and friend Kendra Aarhus joins me to spill all the tea on how we built a partnership on nothing more than a common passion for helping women, a willingness to make mistakes, and lot of humor. Tune in as we discuss how we navigated tough conversations, why women need opportunities to take their businesses seriously, and how women are utilizing the You Conferences to overcome their own doubts and fears surrounding business. How many times have you tried to cram yourself into someone else’s description of a leader?

You register for You Conferences here: www.youconferences.com

Kendra serves as the CEO of You Conferences, runs a successful makeup artistry business, leads a direct sales team of over 600 that spans the US and Europe, and is fumbling with a podcast called, “It’s Funny You Ask.”

She has built her business through authentically connecting with others, a high sense of integrity, and a strong work ethic and strongly believes that anyone can do the same. You won't find a long list of diplomas or letters after her name, but you will find a burning desire to change the world and enough grit to make it happen.

She utilizes her experience in business and leadership as a volunteer SCORE mentor, a direct sales leader, and she will tell you that it is her sincere desire to be the change and encourage the local female-owned business community to thrive.

  • Alyx Coble-Frakes: Making Waves with The Agenda.
    Feb 10 2023

We’re kicking of the season with a replay of a conversation that’s worth repeating. I’m sitting down with my friend Alyx Coble Frakes to discuss the importance of understanding how our bodies and brains work together on a cellular level to make decisions. We’re getting down and nerdy about hormones, cultural taboos surrounding menstruation, and why we’re not just sick of men, we’re sick of their sh*t.

    Jan 31 2022

Jill joined the Cedar Rapids Downtown District in 2007 to lead the newly established Downtown Farmers’ Market. In her 10 years as the Events Planner for the Downtown District and then Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, she grew the market from 50 to over 200 vendors, created Market After Dark, and ran numerous other large-scale community events and conferences.

In 2016, she joined NewBoCo as the Events Director to produce EntreFEST.  During her time at NewBoCo, the organization has grown its events offerings.  She became the COO of NewBoCo in 2021. Jill has enjoyed the opportunity to expand her work throughout the organization and help lead this impactful non-profit. She is grateful to be part of an organization that consists of so many dynamic, action-oriented, passionate people.

Jill teaches musical theater at Dance Arts Iowa in Mount Vernon.  She currently serves on the board for Revival Theatre Company and previously served on the boards for The History Center and NewBo Market. She lives in Lisbon, Iowa with her husband Thad, son Hagen and furry baby Archie.

When asked how she was killin it in life, her response was: "Good question. I don't know that I am half the time. However, I work hard each day to do impactful work that will leave a positive mark on our community and work to support my co-workers in their important work."

This is fair! I think most women don't know that they are killin it half the time, but we all work hard each day and I appreciate her complete honesty on this question!
