  • “American culture still regards the marital state as more desirable and more natural. And within the church, the unmarried person often does not fit. Church programs frequently are designed for families. The single person may feel left out. The idea that a person is truly fulfilled only within marriage may well be present, either overtly or tacitly. Sometimes the idea is carried still further. The command of God to the first human pair “to be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it” (Gen. 1:28) is taken to mean that persons are truly human only when they have reproduced themselves, and that presupposes marriage” - Millard Erickson
