I met German Utria in the 5th grade in 1983 or so. Our friendship was forged on music, movies, food, and more. I also based the Gerry character in my films 1985-1986 and Cool Summer on this person who made (and continues to make) an indelible impact on me. In this interview we talk about the 1980s, the character and films he inspired me to create, his experience being an immigrant from Cuba in the 1980s, and MORE!
