  • Rookie pitcher, Michael Mercado surrendered 5 runs over just 1.2ip and the Philadelphia Phillies Never recovered as they went on to lose to the Atlanta Braves 6-0 Sunday afternoon. Aside from their starting pitching struggling again, so did the Phillies’ offense. They mustered just 5 hits in the loss and have now scored just 1 run over their last two games. Mercado wasn't the only Phillies rookie pitcher to throw today. Tyler Phillips a South Jersey product made his big league debut in the 5th inning of Sundays game. He went on to throw 4 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 7, including the first 4 batters he faced.. The Phillies and Brave have faced each other six times this season with the Braves enjoying a 4-2 record in those games. The NL East rivalry now has 7 games left between them, another 3-game series in Atlanta set for mid-August and a 4-game series In Philadelphia set for the last weekend in August.
