  • Coaching, consulting, and the path to entrepreneurship with Chris M King
    Jul 31 2024

Today I'm joined by Chris M. King, the self-proclaimed "Executive Witch Doctor." We swapped stories about building businesses from the ground up (or in our cases, from our car trunks) and dove into the nitty-gritty of what it really takes to succeed. Chris shared some fascinating insights on the psychology and science behind success that had me questioning everything I thought I knew. If you've ever felt like you're faking it in your business or struggling to turn your big dreams into reality, this one is for you.

    Can't-miss moments:

    • The surprising reason Chris chose to build a business out of his car trunk instead of taking a stable job (and what it means for you and your goals)...

    • Why "fake it till you make it" might be doing more harm than good (and what Chris and I recommend instead)...

    • Contrarian advice: don't talk about your dreams. Chris reveals unexpected downside of talking about your goals, and how it could be sabotaging your success without you even realizing it...

    • Do you have what Chris calls, "Loose Tooth Syndrome?" He breaks down how and why you might be stuck in a cycle of "wanting" instead of "having"...

    • Chris's personal triangle of success that he claims guarantees he can't fail (and how you can apply it to your own business)...

    Chris's bio:

Chris M. King's life is a testament to resilience and transformation. Despite a tumultuous childhood marked by grief, rage, abuse, and addiction, he defied the odds. Overcoming a prolonged academic journey, Chris transitioned from an unfinished undergrad to an NCAA hockey player within just a year of learning to skate. His path included two failed marriages, struggles with mental illness, and a shift from a lucrative career to becoming a poverty-stricken radio personality.

Navigating unconventional career shifts, including marketing a neuroscience institute and a tech role that led to dismissal, Chris faced unemployment. Choosing an audacious path, he built a successful company from his car trunk, making a significant impact on the real estate industry.

Termed a "witch doctor" or "irritated Buddha" Chris is the author of "Renegotiate Your Existence: Unlock Your Impossible Life." Drawing on spiritual psychology and insights from diverse luminaries, he facilitates transformative expeditions for individuals and organizations, pushing them beyond perceived limits to achieve the seemingly impossible.

  • Getting what you really want out of your business with Amber Fuhriman
    Jul 24 2024

Today's guest is Amber Fuhriman, a recovering attorney turned success architect. Host of Break Your Bullshit Box, you know this one is gonna get good and ranty (not to mention sweary). We're breaking down what it means to be your true self in a world hell-bent on forcing you to conform. If you've ever felt like you're wearing a bunch of different masks to balance your personal and professional lives, this episode is your wake-up call.

    Can't-miss moments:

    • Do you have a dozen different versions of "you" floating around out there? Amber shares how and why she chose to be herself (plus a bonus story on why I flipped out when someone Photoshopped me)...

    • If you find yourself about to flip a freakin' table, pause and ask yourself this powerful question (this one is a splash of cold water to the face, in the best possible way)...

    • What does success even mean? Amber shares the surprisingly simple reason you may be struggling to get to your end goal...

    • Mic-drop moment: "You have to be selfish before you can be selfless." Amber has an eye-opening take on goals and success (hint: wanting what you want is not only OK, it's critical to actually doing the damn thing)...

    • Are you running FROM something or TOWARD something? Here's how to tell (and why it's super important)...

    Amber's bio:

Amber Fuhriman is an attorney, author, speaker, and podcaster. She is the Owner and Attorney at Fuhriman Law in Las Vegas, Nevada. Amber practices Criminal Defense and Immigration Law. She graduated from Law School in Michigan and immediately moved to Vegas to being her career.

Throughout her educational and professional career, Amber always thought there would be an “I’ll be happy when moment.” When that moment never came, Amber started to realize her entire identity had been tied up in being an attorney and chasing accomplishments to fill a void that accomplishments could never fill.

Since 2016, Amber has pushed the boundaries of her self-imposed physical and mental limitations, living outside her comfort zone as much as possible and learning about how the mind works and how our limiting beliefs affect our success. Now, in addition to practicing law, Amber is a Success Architect!

Her book, "Break Your Bullsh*t Box" released August 23, 2023. In it, Amber discusses the excuses we have relied on to justify holding ourselves back and how we can break the bullshit box that those excuses live in.

  • Changing careers while changing countries with Tania Yeo
    Jul 17 2024

Today I'm joined by the amazing Tania Yeo, a teacher turned copywriter who's living her best life in Tbilisi, Georgia. We're exploring how exactly she changed fields (and countries) and found her footing in a completely different industry. If you're considering a career change or just need a dose of inspiration, you don't want to miss this one!

Random Angie note: I seriously considered titling this one "Copywriters who travel with cats." I figured it deserved an honorable mention :)

    Can't-miss moments:

    • When you realize you don't want to be a nomad AFTER you've already moved: how Tania pivoted (and the surprising way it applies to decisions you make in your business)...

    • Stalling by studying: is it a lack of skills holding you back, or fear? Check out the simple, straight-shooting piece of advice that changed Tania's entire career trajectory (it can work for you too, if you're brave)...

    • "This is not a Sarah McLachlan commercial!" Tania and I get off on a hilarious tangent about the reality (and interesting advantages) of traveling with cats...

    • How do you know when you're qualified enough? Tania and I rant about focusing on all the wrong things (and what to do instead of racking up the right amount of "time on the job")...

    • Trying to get on the radar of a bigwig or big name in your space? Check out my and Tania's advice on the right AND wrong ways to get a guru's attention...

    Tania's bio:

I'm a former Art and Literature teacher from Singapore who's now a financial copywriter currently based in Tbilisi. I'm passionate about helping transitioning teachers from all over the world become copywriters - you can hear all about it on my podcast, Classroom to Copy. In my free time, I make art, obsessively try to recreate Southeast Asian food at home, hike, and soak up the beautiful culture and history of Georgia.

  • Unf*cking your mind and your business with Stacy Raske
    Jul 10 2024

Today I'm joined by the incredible Stacy Raske for a deep dive into quite possibly one of my fave topics: mind and business unfuckery. Stacy is a leadership expert and professional speaker, and as an Iraq war veteran, she knows a thing or two about staying sharp under pressure. We cover why you need to manage your energy instead of your time, how to embrace your inner critic, and how to create more leverage in your business. And if you're at the "burn it all down" stage of business, I think you'll get a lot out of this one.

    Can't-miss moments:

    • Feeling stuck, and like you want to burn it all down? Stacy shares a powerful exercise that can jolt you out of “survival brain” mode (and it's surprisingly easy to do, any time, anywhere)...

    • Zone of genius vs your superpower: if you love doing the work but find yourself low on energy, you might not actually be working in your genius zone. Stacy reveals how to tell the difference (and how to get yourself back on track)...

    • "Fake it until you make it" advice has gone completely off the rails! Stacy and I agree: stop pretending like you’ve done shit you haven’t just to impress potential clients. Here’s what to do instead...

    • You know you don’t actually HAVE to take Zoom meetings? Here’s a shockingly obvious substitute Stacy uses to help keep her energy high...

    • The myth of "I'll do it when..." is keeping you safe AND keeping you stuck. Stacy shares a cautionary tale on what happens when you allow your fears to drive the bus for you...

    Stacy's bio:

Stacy Raske is a bestselling author, professional speaker, and Iraq War Veteran specializing in leadership and performance optimization, executive and mindset coaching, and business and brand strategy to help you BE the leader you’d be inspired to follow. She helps you take control of your mindset, energy, and time, and master your focus to succeed and impact more by doing less. • Changing industries and building a new empire with Gocha Hawkins
    Jun 26 2024

Ever wondered what it takes to transition from a successful 30-year career in hair styling to founding a booming restaurant group? I just had the most incredible conversation with Gocha Hawkins, a restaurateur who's taking Atlanta by storm. She shares how she channeled her passion for cooking and community into several restaurants, a tapas bar, a food truck, and even a gourmet retail line. Whether you're a foodie, a business owner, or just someone who loves a good success story, you don't want to miss this episode!

    Can't-miss moments:

    • What made Gocha leave her successful hair stylist career behind and go all in on a restaurant (no outsourcing to a manager or operator... she literally went all in, and it's seriously inspiring)

    • Serving people and solving problems: when the wait time hits an hour, most restaurants just let the time get longer. Gocha came up with a genius move to serve people AND keep wait times down (it may or may not involve creative use of a food truck)...

    • How Gocha turned a potential disaster into a money-making opportunity during the pandemic. This'll make you rethink your approach to tough times...

    • The one thing Gocha says separates a "server" from an "order taker". I's a game-changer for any customer-facing business (and for you foodies: this distinction is how I find great food in nearly every city I visit)...

    • Feeling beat down by inflation? Gocha's got an AWESOME perspective shift to help you reframe and keep kicking ass during tough times...

    • Taking a little detour: Gocha and I chat about my days in the service industry, and I reveal the secret alliance strategy I used as a server that helped me turn tables faster...

    Gocha's bio:

Gocha Hawkins is a visionary celebrity chef and the owner of the renowned Gocha's Breakfast Bars and Gocha’s Tapas Bar, which provide upscale, tantalizing cuisine that promises an unparalleled dining experience. Transitioning from a successful career in cosmetology, where she worked with A-list celebrities, to conquering the culinary world, Gocha's journey has been marked by resilience and determination.

Hawkins’ tremendous success has underscored the importance of community, prompting her to give back by orchestrating events that emphasize community engagement through educational workshops, local high school partnerships where she helps develop teens in the community, and food drives for underserved communities.

  • Stepping back when everything feels out of control with Amanda Grace
    Jun 19 2024

This week I'm talking to Amanda Grace, a therapist and art journaling expert. We dive deep into the ways our egos run the show and keep us trapped in cycles of seeking external validation and chasing the next "fix" - whether that's another course, achievement or just mindless scrolling for a dopamine hit. Amanda doesn't hold back in calling out some hard truths about the lies we tell ourselves to avoid doing the real inner work. If you've ever felt helplessly controlled by bad habits, the need to constantly be accomplishing things, or approval-seeking, this episode will light a fire under you. Listen now!

    Can't-miss moments:

    • Are you doing something for all the wrong reasons? I share a story about a "good habit" that wasn't really good for much when I broke it down...

    • When ego is driving the bus: Amanda shares a must-watch movie that will open your eyes to all the ways your wounded inner child shows up as a shapeshifter to manipulate you...

    • Moderation is a lie: Amanda has a refreshing stance on what it means to be "moderate" with behaviors and habits we know are causing problems (this one probably won't feel good for most of us to hear, but it's necessary)...

    • Here's a belief I want to set on fire: you're a failure as an entrepreneur if you get a job. Amanda and I break down this fear, and show you how to make the right decision for you (no matter what the people around you might think)...

    • Are you gambling with your business? Amanda reveals how the "just one more course, one more podcast..." tendencies of Shiny Object Syndrome are just like gamblers who have gotten in over their heads (and shares a radical idea for how to stop this behavior in its tracks)...

    Amanda's bio:

Amanda Grace grew up in a happy, supportive, loving home. However, from as far back as she can recall, she battled with low self-esteem, persistent anxiety & an unidentifiable sense of shame - a shadow that lingered in the corners of her existence.

Following numerous and occasionally harmful attempts to "fix herself," Amanda ultimately unearthed a path to recovery that has since become her greatest gift & most central commitment in her life to this very day.

Now, she dedicates herself to mentoring women facing similar struggles, guiding them through the shadows of Generational Traumas that impede their journey towards freedom, confidence, and happiness, ultimately transforming their lives.

Katherine Pomerantz is an accountant/money wizard turning the financial world on its head. • Spoiler alert: MONEY IS MADE UP. It is literally flying over our heads this second, little data bytes we've all agreed equal something of value. Katherine and I reveal why we find this idea inspiring vs intimidating...

    • Out of context quote: "Did I tell you about the time everything was fucked up and I thought we were all going to die?"

    • Are you treating money as something you earn at the end of the journey, or as a tool to help you on that journey? Here's how to tell the difference...
