  • E028 – Palm Ghosts – with Joe Lekkas & Ben Douglas – Haunting post-punk disillusionment that dances you into the glimmering light of hope
    Mar 15 2024

In this episode I have the privilege of chatting with Joe Lekkas and Ben Douglas, the two main drivers behind the band Palm Ghosts. I chatted with the fellas about their beginnings, inspirations and writing process as well as digging into some of the songs off of their latest album, I Love You, Burn in Hell. The duo, along with drummer, Walt Epting, craft melodic yet brooding rhythms and melodies that sway you back and forth between the New Wave/alternative sounds of the 80’s and the modern alternative post-punk revival sounds of the 21st century. Joe & Ben are a couple of really down to earth guys and I really enjoyed our conversation. The band manages to remind the listener of a myriad of 80’s & 90’s new wave/post-punk/alternative/shoe gaze bands while creating a new unidentifiable genre that seems to belong only to them. If you love Joy Division, New Order, The Cure, Peter Gabriel, XTC, Echo & The Bunnymen, Mission UK, The Psychedelic Furs, The Doves, Bloc Party, Simples Minds (Yeah… the list goes on and on!) then you will be as enamored with Palm Ghosts as I am. This year (2024), the band will be releasing a series of songs, one at a time, every 2 weeks, which will end up populating 4 EPs and ultimately a double LP by the end of the year so be sure to check them out on the streaming platform of your choice. Thanks for joining us!

All other sounds and song clips used were procured from publicly posted sources.

  • E027 – Pazz Kluger with Pat Av – Infectious NY/NJ Post-punk dramatic Alterna Goth
    Feb 14 2024
In this episode I chat with Patrick Av who creates post-punk dramatic alterna goth under the project name Pazz Kluger. Pat is drawn to the drama of relationships in new wave and post-punk songs and seeks to write and sing about the darker, tortured side that we’ve all felt at times in our life. Even with the darkness, one can feel an underlying longing for peace and wholeness in each of these songs. We had a great conversation about his musical beginnings, his post-punk influences, and discussed some of the songs from his substantial catalogue. If you love Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Sound, The Mission UK, The Chameleons, The Church and other post-punk/new wave bands from the 80’s you will dig the music of Pazz Kluger as much as I do. Thanks for joining us! All songs and song clips are used with the permission of Patrick Av - Pazz Kluger. All other sounds and clips used were procured from publicly posted clips and used under fair use. • 026 – Lifesavers Underground – Shaded Pain - Part 2 – Cut by the Body… Forced to Run and Hide
    Feb 3 2024

In this episode, Tegwen, Mark and I continue our discussion with Side B of the post-punk gothic masterpiece, Shaded Pain by the Lifesavers Underground. If you haven’t listened to the first half of this chat, be sure to stop right now and go listen to Episode 025 - Lifesavers Underground - Shaded Pain - Part 1 first and then come back to finish up here. If you’ve never heard of Lifesavers Underground (L.S.U) but like Bahaus, Peter Murphy, The Mission UK and bands of that ilk, you should definitely check them out. Thanks so much for joining us!

    Tegwen’s Post Punk Checklist:

    -Drony vocals

-Screechy feedback guitars, not played for precision ,

-Played for vibes, strummed repetitive guitars

-Sick baseline, but not necessarily noticed, yet still drives the song- energetic

-Allows you to dance to it

-Mix of drum machine, tinny echoey sound, slightly erratic live drums

-Creating a Phil Spectory wall of sound

-Very produced but not polished- lots of effects on 11 with echo/ reverb

    Jan 10 2024
