    To help us with all of this today we have an incredible guest and new friend to the show! Let’s learn more about Shana Siegel.

    Shana Siegel is Chair of the Elder Law; Special Needs group at Norris McLaughlin. Shana concentrates her practice on representing older adults, individuals with special needs, and their families in connection with life care planning, public benefits, trust and estate planning and administration, resident rights, health care decision making, guardianships and long-term care advocacy. Shana has been certified by the National Elder Law Foundation (NELF) and is recognized as a member of the Counsel of Advanced Practitioners.

    Prior to joining Norris McLaughlin, P.A., Shana was with WanderPolo and Siegel for over 10 years, five of which were as principal. She has been involved in health and long-term care issues for over 30 years. She is a past president of the New Jersey Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), where she regularly met with legislators and government officials on behalf of the elder law bar and their clients. Additionally, Shana has served as an officer for the New Jersey State Bar Elder Disability Law Section and serves on the board of several nonprofits serving seniors and the disability community.

    She also wrote "Rising Lawyer," a practical guide for law students and junior associates who want to succeed in the legal profession. Last year, Adriana ventured into the world of coaching where she works 1:1 with lawyers on productivity, implementing better time skills & reworking their daily routines in order to create more time for their personal lives. She is launching her first small group program for lawyers this fall.

    • Savor enjoyable experiences
    • Pay attention to loved ones
    • Focus fully on tasks or chores
    • Think deeply when enjoying a book or movie
    • Soothe racing thoughts or overthinking
    • Increased enjoyment: Life is more enjoyable when you're present. Food tastes better, family time is more fun, and work becomes more enjoyable.
    • Reduced stress: Being present is almost like meditation. There are no worries, just experiencing.
    • Better relationships: Committing to being with someone improves conversations and bonding.
    • Get things done: Focusing on one task at a time leads to better and faster completion.

    How to Deal with Distractions at Work:

    1. Create a distraction-free ritual: Tame distractions in advance.
    2. Set three daily intentions: Use the Rule of Three to focus on what's important.
    3. Reduce distractions: Distractions can help soothe racing thoughts, but if they hinder presence, reduce them.

    How to Be Comfortable with Distractions:

    1. Journaling: Pay attention to your thoughts for stress relief and emotional wellness.
    2. Meditation: Sit with challenging emotions to experience and let them go.
    3. Practice mindful eating: Focus solely on the act of eating.
    4. Pause screen time: Take control of your day by limiting distractions.
    5. Build a routine: Stay on track and feel empowered.
    6. Be aware: Become more aware of your thoughts.
    7. Be gentle: Don't beat yourself up for thinking about the past or future.
    8. Exercise: Use exercise as a form of meditation, focusing solely on the activity.
    9. Put up reminders: Use reminders to stay present.
    10. Spend time in nature: Connect with nature to anchor yourself in the moment.
    11. Schedule creative time: Engage in creative activities to celebrate the present.
    12. Keep practicing: Continue practicing presence without fear of failure.
