  • When I think of progress and perfection, I can’t help but think of the story about the Tortoise and the Hare. If you remember this childhood classic, the Hare judged the Tortoise based solely on speed and challenged the Tortoise to a race.   From the outside looking in, one could predict the outcome of the race since tortoises are known to move very slow. The twist in this story came when the Hare started the race in full speed, then decided to stop and take a break after realizing how much further ahead he was. While the Hare rested, the Tortoise kept going and slowly but surely, ended up winning the race. The Hare is like many of us who discover our purpose and start running our race full speed. Unfortunately, we experience burnout early on because we failed to take the time to approach the race like the Tortoise with wisdom and strategy.    Many believe that chasing purpose is a race, when really it’s more like a marathon.
