Radon, a Silent, Odor-Free Cancer Cause

  • Resumen

  • Anna has Steve Traylor from A+ Home Inspections and Amy Little from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Doctors estimate there are 20,000 to 30,000 deaths from lung cancer caused by radon every year. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. We don't hear much about radon because nationwide it only affects one out of fifteen homes, but the EPA shows that it affects half of homes in Williamson, Davidson and surrounding counties.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that seeps through cracks and rocks in the ground. When a house is built over this it gets trapped in the basements, crawl spaces, etc. Radon is odorless and colorless so there's no way of knowing your house has it without a test. The good news is that radon is a fixable problem.
