    Jul 4 2024

Welcome to another read-aloud. In honor of Disability Pride month, we are choosing books with disabled characters and themes around disability.

For our first read this month, we picked What Happened to You, illustrated by Karen George and written by James Catchpole, who wrote it based on the his own childhood experiences.

We love this book because provides it a valuable model for children of how better to talk to their disabled peers. For more about this book, keep an 👀 out for our Book of the Month!

  • Ep.12: It Feels Good to Be Yourself
    Jun 7 2024

Welcome to another read-aloud! In honor of Pride month, we are choosing books with LGBTQ+ themes. This time we're reading "It Feels Good to Be Yourself" by Theresa Thorn.

🌸Written by the mother of a transgender little girl, It Feels Good to Be Yourself is a wonderful way to introduce the concept of gender identify to your children. It is a book that allows children to feel free to be whoever they authentically are and gives them the vocabulary to express that. It is also very educational for adults, and shows us how we can - and should - openly talk about gender with our children in an inclusive and affirming way.

This is one of my FAVORITE children’s books of all time. I personally think this should be a staple in everyone’s library. 📖

  • Ep.11: Pink is for Boys
    May 31 2024

Welcome to another read-aloud! This week we read "Pink is for Boys" by Robb Pearlman and Eda Kaban. In honor of Pride month, we are choosing books with LGBTQ+ theme.

🎨 "Pink is for Boys" is a great way to read about colors while also moving away from the idea that colors should be gendered.

At Talk Time Boston, we are committed to defending the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment at our practice. As allies, we are still learning and welcome feedback, suggestions, and respectful criticism in the comments or private messages at any time We are also mindful that it should not be the work of LGBTQ+ individuals to educate us and so we continue to prioritize our own education about how we can best support LGBTQ+ individuals and, especially, our LGBTQ+ students.

❤️ Do you have LGBTQ+ books on your shelf at home? Let us know in the comments!
