  • Episode 42: Gabe Orta on manifestation + turning your pain into purpose
    May 9 2023
This week I sat down with (my baby daddy) Gabe Orta, Co-founder of Bar-Lab Hospitality aka @dashipapi aka my fiancé. He shared hs wild story of losing his dad, his grandmother and his at the age of 8 in Colombia to the Cartel violence, how that brought him to the US and the struggles he overcame to be one of the world's best and aclaimed restaurantuers. He is the founder of places like The Broken Shaker, Jolene Sound Room, Hoja Tacos- a culture creator and conscious manifestor. We have so much to learn from him, can't wait for you to dive in! This week I sat down to talk to my fiancé Gabe, while we were in New York for the opening of his new bar (0:17). Gabe talks about his childhood growing up in Colombia during the 80s and how growing up surrounded by conflict led him to his spiritual journey (3:10). Gabe tells me about how moving to the US gave him the sense of freedom that was needed to open the gates of manifestation (11:36). Gabe explains learning about the power of the mind and the universal laws gave him the freedom and will to change his life and launch his business (19:23). We talk about the importance of inner work and grounding oneself, and how Gabe upholds this through self-discipline and ritual (30:47). THINK: Is manifestation for the privileged? For a while the manifestation game has been epitomized by white privilege, as most people in the spiritual teaching and author space, historically, have been white or white passing. But for people like Gabe his anarchy was to dismiss his lack of privilege and almost delusionally pursue his dreams, as my boy Russ the musician would say. At some point you have to take radical responsibility for your visions, desires, and actions to pursue your biggest dreams. DO: Go to one of Bar-Lab’s restaurants or bars, located in Miami, NYC, La, Chicago and Washington DC. They’re award winning, always have a sense of welcoming hospitality and non pretentious craft. They source as many of their ingredients as possible locally and/or heirloom. I’m so proud of my fiance and his team, the culture they have created is really second to none. • Episode 41: How plant medicine can bring you closer to peace with the fact that we're all going to die with Laura Dawn
    May 2 2023
Laura Dawn, Plant Medicine Integration Guide and Host of Psychedelic Leadership podcast tells us an incredible story of losing her sacred ceremonial land in Hawaii and how it was a gift that changed the trajectory of her whole life. We dig into Psychedelics and creativity and even how they bring us closer to the truth and knowing to “trust in the great unknown, trust that the highest will unfold, trust that the way will be shown, look into your hands you hold the key” 21:58 (1:15). Laura told me about her childhood growing up in Montreal and how she found herself living off the grid in Hawaii (4:15). Laura explained to me how experiencing an earthquake while living in Hawaii taught her that being in touch with darkness is key to living more fearlessly and authentically (19:40). We also discussed how humanity’s innate desire to take cognitive liberty can only result in open-mindedness and a capacity to engage in dialogue (30:02). THINK: What if you are who you’ve been looking for, not just in a “wherever you go there you are kind of way” or in a “romantic way” like, searching and searching just to find inner love one day and realize you’re the one you’ve been looking for- those are important ways in which to honor yourself too- but i’m talking about what if you’re the savior you've been looking for? Like you’re your own guru. I used to have a sticker that said “kill the guru and I got it- but i didn't GET IT, until more recent years in my experiencing working w coaches and healers- there are some amazing ones out there but if you don't have sovereignty, not just granted by them, but held by you- you have nothing. You are what you've been looking for.
