  • Nick Wells: The Road to Redemption
    Jul 16 2024

#120: This week we revisit episode number #44 with the incredible Nick Wells. When Nick went to prison, he had no reason to think he would see freedom again in his lifetime. With 14 years of addiction and a 60-year sentence looming ahead, his life seemed to be over. After being granted clemency 14 years into incarceration, Nick is more dedicated than ever to continuing the work he started on the inside. Tune into the episode to hear Nick's story of redemption, recovery and more:

    • The role that fitness played in Nick’s recovery from substance use, and how he inspired others to walk the same path.
    • Why he took a chance on training those deemed 'un-saveable,' proving everyone who doubted him wrong.
    • How a group of guys doing CrossFit workouts in prison started a groundbreaking organization called RF2.

  • Sophie Lyons: Belonging, Yoga and Queerness in Recovery
    Jul 9 2024

#119: As Liz and Bryce gear up for Season 2 of the Podcast, we are taking a brief hiatus from recording new podcast episodes. In the interim, we've chosen some of our favorite episodes to re-share with you. Check out episode #30 with Sophie Lyons to hear her story and learn something you didn't catch the first time around.

*Please note in this episode there is mention of specific aspects of eating disorders. If this type of conversation feels unsafe for you, it is always ok to skip a week, or have a trusted friend pre-listen before you dive in.

Sophie a yoga teacher, queer person in recovery, and passionate advocate for her community. We touch on topics close to Sophie's heart, including:

    • How substance use disorder and eating disorder recovery are intricately connected.
    • What it was like to join recovery groups as a young person, and how not hitting a traditional "rock bottom" made her question her place there.
    • How being open about who she is can empower and break down stigma for others in the LGBTQIA+ community.

  • Liz & Bryce: Taking a Moment to Rest
    Jul 2 2024

#118: As Liz and Bryce wrap up Season 1 of the Rise Recover Live Podcast, what better topic to discuss than rest! Taking a moment to pause allows us to connect back to our "why" and our creativity. Although this can be daunting when you're in a groove, it's vital to breathe and reset. Tune into the episode to hear the conversation, including:

    • Why Liz and Bryce are taking a hiatus from recording new episodes, and what to expect in the interim.
    • Debunking the idea that we have to 'earn' rest or that we need to rest so we can be more productive.
    • Liz's relationship with sleep in recovery, and how she had to completely rebuild her routine and learn new habits.
    • How just like there are multiple seasons to recovery, there are multiple seasons of the Podcast, and Liz and Bryce can't wait to come back with new ways of contributing to the space.
