    A success mindset is powerful and although it might take time to develop, especially if there are setbacks, moments of challenge or doubts, it is continuously working on yourself. Some common principles that will help anyone achieve anything they set their mind to include setting desired goals or outcomes, using your sensory acuity, being flexible, having good people in your corner, a positive mindset and most importantly, taking action.     ‘When we can support ourselves to go, ‘Do you know what, I can do this, I do have the capacity to do this’, our bodies and our minds are capable of so much more than we allow them to think. And, when we can create that space and allow other people to hold that for us, and to send us that positive energy, it completely changes where our mind and where our energy is focused. So it’s just that shift of what we are looking at and what we are focusing on can completely change how the mind and body responds.’ ~ Ruth Hotson After being told that she didn’t handle stress very well and that it was the cause of her long-term health issues, Ruth Hotson spent over a decade studying and learning how stress impacts our bodies and minds. This led her to study several different health and wellness modalities so she could help other people manage the daily effects of stress. One modality included massage which is a wonderful way to relieve stress and tension from the body, but it was Kinesiology that became the real key to help change her reaction and default response to stress long-term. As a practitioner, Ruth aims to support her clients to wellness and help them find physical and emotional balance so they can make the most of their precious life. In this week’s show, we hear Ruth help us to understand the principles of Kinesiology and how alternative health therapies can support mental, emotional and physical well-being. Life is stressful for everyone and in most countries, people are balancing financial, personal, relational and health issues. Ruth’s mission is to support her clients to overcome any limitations or challenges and give them an understanding of how they have ended up in this situation and what has caused it. She then shares a number of modalities we can use to move through and heal these moments and then show up in our best most amazing way. I learned you just had to smile and not let people know you were struggling. The style of kinesiology that I do, comes from four different angles – physical, chemical, emotional or spiritual. I think we are all under stress and the way that will show up is different. A shift in what we are focusing on can change the way we experience it. It’s the little things I focus on that are the big things. In life, we cannot expect a static line. The nervous system is like a spring and if working well will take that impact. How we respond to the things that happen is based on how we perceive the world not how things are. Many like to downplay how stressed they are. Gratitude is important but the reality is downplaying stress is not helpful. Who I am is at the core of my being. Focus on what you love or focus on what you still have.     ‘I think you need to just keep turning up until it becomes… something that I like to think to myself is going to training for me is as important as doing my grocery shopping. I need it. It’s part of my life. I need it for my mental health, for my physical health… it’s just part of what you do. But in the beginning, you’ve got to push yourself. When you don’t want to go – as you said getting out of bed, the hardest part is putting your feet on the floor – and then once you’re up grab a coffee or something to eat or go straight there. But once you’re up, and you’re there, it’s not hard at all! It’s just turning up!’ ~ Shelly Burton Shelly is a 51-year-old wife, mother, full-time worker and bodybuilder. The most important thing to Shelly is to show up for herself each and every day, so she can be the very best version of herself. Shelly believes women often put themselves last to make in order to take care of all the people they love, but she questions how do women keep their cups full to overflowing if they aren’t replenishing themselves. Shelly is proof that you are never too old to change and never too old to fulfil whatever crazy dream you have. Her main message is you just keep turning up! In this interview, Shelly shares her journey from being a novice athlete to a champion body-builder all through the power of good discipline, a positive mindset and accountability.     Recent studies at New York University have uncovered fascinating insights into the role of the amygdala in the brain’s limbic system, particularly in how it processes and releases emotional trauma. These findings challenge conventional wisdom and open new avenues for therapeutic approaches including Aromatherapy. Smell is a powerful and often underappreciated sense. The olfactory system, responsible for detecting and processing odours, is directly connected to the limbic system, which includes the amygdala. This direct connection means that smells can evoke strong emotional responses and memories, more so than other senses. This activation allows the release of emotional trauma stored within the amygdala, potentially offering a pathway for healing and therapeutic intervention.     ‘I think I was expecting an older gentleman that had been an orthopaedic surgeon for many, many years, but he was actually quite cool, and he was around about the same age as me, and he kind of walked through those gates at the airport like he was going on a holiday. And obviously, with me sitting in a wheelchair he knew exactly who I was. So, we didn’t even have a chance to go anywhere. We were basically in the middle of the airport where he stripped down my bandages, with thousands of people walking around us, looking, thinking we were crazy I would have thought, and he stripped down my bandages looked at my leg, asked a few medical questions and he basically said the only way we can fix this is you get on a plane tomorrow morning and we amputate tomorrow night.’ ~ Paula Gowland No one would ever guess that simply hanging curtains could be so life-changing.
