Sharon Salzberg | Caring for Those Who Care for Others

  • Resumen

  • Thomas is joined by meditation pioneer, world-renowned teacher, and New York Times bestselling author, Sharon Salzberg.

They discuss how meditation brings us deeply in touch with how connected we all are, and helps us embrace our authentic selves. Sharon has worked extensively bringing tools of yoga, meditation, and community building to those in caring and healing professions. She stresses the importance of balance and explains how meditation and mindfulness practices can help us be present with suffering as well as joy—without causing ourselves undo harm or dissociating from our problems.

She and Thomas explore the Buddhist emphasis on love, connection, and community, and how understanding and caring for ourselves is our greatest tool in caring for others and the world.

Key points from this episode include:

    • Learning from meditation to sit with painful feelings and approach them with compassion
    • Helping people get back in touch with their tools of resilience
    • The importance of community building in trauma healing
    • How our spiritual practice can help us meet the challenges of the world instead of bypassing them
    • Integrating inner work and outer expression
    • The traumatized compulsion to serve others and how we can be more introspective to understand our motivations and intentions
