  • Being a Happy Homemaker in a House You Don’t Love
    Sep 17 2024

FREE Bust out of Burnout Bingo Challenge - https://simplyconvivial.com/bingo

Homemaking in an apartment or rental house can be disheartening. It's easy to be discontent in small spaces and in a place you don't own and can't change. But it's important, still, to be an engaged homemaker, even in less-than-ideal circumstances.

In a world where we see idealized photos of white-and-beige kitchens wherever we turn, how do we then step into our 30-year-old, not-updated, cramped kitchen and remain content? It’s a question worth asking – and answering.

I am truly grateful for this time in temporary housing at a phase of life where it’s easy to feel like we’re entitled only to upgrades. We’re past the season where we rough it to gain equity, aren’t we?

Is there really a season where we judge how we’re doing by how nice our house is?

I love talking about both homemaking and education because both are lifelong pursuits. It’s good to not get to a point where there’s no challenge.

Getting a family dinner on the table can feel relentless. Whether we serve up a success or a flop, the next meal will follow fast on its heels.

Family dinners have spiritual and relational value, beyond just biological feeding. We should make family dinners normal, extending hospitality by inviting other families, and building community through shared meals.

As mothers, one great temptation is to grow weary in doing good. We do so much of the same work, day in and day out, that it’s easy to lose the plot, to lose ourselves, to lose a desire to do…anything.
