Tom has been writing, playing, and recording these songs for this album for approximately 20 years. These songs were compiled with the infusion of a who's-who of some of the finest blues musicians in America today; Dallas Hodge (Canned Heat), Stanley Behrans (War, Canned Heat), Jim Pugh (Robert Cray), Joe Sublett (Taj Mahal), Billy Watts (Eric Burden), Skip Van Winkl (Van Winkl & Teagarden) and many more.

    If that wasn't enough next up is Etta James and her album Stickin' to My Guns and to finish out the episode are a few tunes from Austin, Texas' own the Texas Eastside Kings, these musicians supported the likes of B.B.     Welcome to the latest episode of the Smooth Honey Bear Blues. The week is a retrospective of James Henry Cotton, singer, songwriter, and harmonica player. James was born July i, 1935 and dies March 16, 2017 in Austin, Texas. During his career he worked with numerous prominent artists including: Gregg Allman, Elvin Bishop, Joe Bonamassa, Grateful Dead, Howlin' Wolf, Janis Joplin, Taj Mahal, Big Mama Thornton and Jimmy Vaughn to name just a few. He was recruited and played with Muddy Waters for several years. Tonight's tracks are from two of his many recordings: James Cotton "Living the Blues" and Dealing with the Devil.

    This Episode the the Smooth Honey Bear Blues features the music of Jimmy Reed. Mathis James Reed was born in 1925 and died in August of 1976. He started recording in 1953 and had a number of hits in the '50s and '60s. Some of these are featured in the episode including; Honest I Do, Big Boss Man, and Bright Lights, Big City. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. The music of Austin Texas' own , The Fabulous Thunderbirds comprises the second have of the episode with their album "Tuff Enuff". Songs include; the title track Tuff Enuff along with other familiar hits; Two Time My Lovin', Amnesia, and Why Get Up. So get comfy and enjoy.

    This latest episode of the Smooth Honey Bear Blues features the music of Jimmy Vaughan, the older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan. The music is from Jimmy Vaughan's 1994 album "Strange Pleasure" which feature Jimmy and numerous special guests. Also, featured on this episode is the collaborative album "Family Style" which features songs performed by Jimmy and his brother Stevie released in 1990.

    I was fortunate to have seen Jimmy Vaughan and Stevie Ray Vaughan perform numerous times at numerous venues in Austin Texas, T-Bird Riverfest, Aquafest, and Antones to name a few. So sit back and enjoy. Here's hoping the the music spark some great memories for you.
