  • Maddie Ross talks New Music, LGBTQ2+, Ally-Ship and Being Confidently You!
    Sep 10 2021

Described “The Best DIY Rockstar You’ve Never Heard of” by Billboard, her self-released debut album went on to be named billboard.com's #5 Best Album of 2019.

Maddie Ross began writing and releasing songs in 2014 upon discovering her queer identity. Until that time, Ross hadn’t seen liking girls as something cute or romantic because she had no model for it. She's stated that “Growing up, the word ‘lesbian’ meant something shameful at worst, and tolerable at best. It became her mission to release music showing feminine, powerful queer women in a fun, positive light.” Ross’s inclusive lyrics and upbeat music have been praised for filling the gap in representation that she lacked in her own youth.

    Our spotlight is on MusiCares.

MusiCares understands that members of the LGBTQIA+ community may face challenges in obtaining medical treatment, such as discrimination from medical providers or insurance companies.

They've noted that elevating LGBTQIA+ people in music is much bigger than any song, artist, or album. It's about providing tangible aid to a marginalized community.

That's why MusiCares Health & Human Services Team hosts programming—both virtually and in-person— Year-round; which tackles the needs of the music community as well as, offering financial, mental health support, and addiction recovery assistance for those who qualify.

  • Pascale Mullor (aka Petit PatapOn Nunchaku) talks Nunchucks, Motivation and Mindset
    Aug 20 2021

Joining us in the virtual Spill it! studio is the incredible nunchaku practitioner, Pascale Mullor better known as “Petit PatapOn”. When Pascale began her nunchaku journey, she did not have a martial arts background. Unaware of the rules, she focused on the freedom of expression, creativity and artistic experience that the nunchaku provided.

With a love of Poi and the Devil sticks, Pascale viewed the nunchaku from an artistic point of view and as a means to express herself. Her desire to challenge herself and become the person she knew she could be, drove her to train more than 10 hours per week for the first 2 years.

Pascale would love to see freestyle nunchaku become a discipline embraced the world over, because the personal benefits are so widespread; improving dexterity, creativity, concentration, equilibrium, and allowing those who use them to realize and reveal their own artistic style.
