Still Slaying: a Buffy-verse podcast

De: Podcastica
  • Resumen

  • Penny and Kara take you on a journey of appreciation, nostalgia and deep analysis of all things Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Currently in BTVS Season 3 and we plan to rewatch the whole series (& Angel) in chronological order. New Episodes are published on Tuesdays.

    Why revisit the Buffy-verse?

We think the show Still Slays. Buffy is both iconoclast and icon. 25 years ago she broke new ground for women characters as superheroes and women as people by subverting tropes, using kindness as strength and love as power. The cheeky vibe of the show provides a campy canvas for exploring some deep themes about trauma, societal ills and human nature all while delivering its signature witty dialogue. BTVS remains relevant and held in high critical regard 25 years later.

For first time watchers of the series we try to avoid too many spoilers until the end of the podcast so it’s easy to skip. You can be a part of the discussion: Send us a text or voice message at stillslayingfeedback@gmail.com or comment at facebook.com/groups/podcastica and we'll respond on the air.

"I know it's complicated. I'm aware that my graduation may be, among other things, posthumous. But what if I stop the Ascension. What if I capture Faith?"

Back after our hiatus and really excited to discuss the final episodes of BTVS Season 3. With Choices, Kara and Penny get into it about Kerouac, the college selection process, core trauma, how much Wesley should shut up, Cordelia’s senioritis, the multiverse, and appropriate heist fashion.

Next time, we’ll be covering Season 3, Episode 20, “The Prom.” We’ll be sharing some of our own Prom pictures and memories and we’d love for you to join in. Send us pictures of your own Prom (or school formal) and let us know if we can share them on Instagram and Facebook! What was the theme? Who did you go with? What was the music?

“No one else exists either. Buffy is all of us. We think. Therefore, she is.”

Content warning: discussion of gun violence, school shootings, and suicide
If you want to skip the main discussion of the Columbine shooting, it starts at 00:04:50 and ends around 00:16:11. Additional discussion of school gun violence occurs from 01:19:38 to 01:41:56.

This episode holds up remarkably well. Along with some serious messages about pain and compassion and empathy, it delivers some classic quips and hilarious character moments. The Scooby Duo bond over metaphoric runs and stumbles in their careers, always irresistible to our opponents, and go on to talk about Saint Buffy, demon eczema, the best superpowers, chicken and stars, cow print pajamas, Othello, Band Candy, individualism, assumptions, isolation, emotional intelligence, jealousy, reflections, Tiger King, Aladdin, Lawrence Olivier, Shakespeare in the Park, compassion fatigue, Jell-O, risk, alcohol abuse, man vs. bear, Cocaine Bear, the color yellow, Walk Like an Egyptian, British slang, and room temperature milk.

Next time, we’ll be covering Season 3, Episode 19, “Choices.”

    Keep Slaying!
