  • #TBR237 - The Best of the Black Stuff
    Aug 11 2024

Guinness. It's synonymous with the word stout.... but is it the best and could we pick it out of a line up. 11% of beer sold in the UK is Guinness - so it's no wonder that a couple of beers have gone up against it recently. We blind taste test the classic Guinness and a couple of upstarts : Conor McGregor's Forged Irish Stout and BrewDog's Black Heart... and just for good measure, we see if we can spot the Guinness Zero too. We also rate them and pick our favourite whilst intermingling the conversation with facts, stories and conjecture. Finally, after seeing the Gonster (A Guinness and Monster cocktail) on the Guinness Community Facebook page -ahem, amongst other things- we give that a go to - is it Genius or a Monstrosity? The opening music is "London Bayou" by Oscar Albis Rodrigues and the closing music is "BDS" by Lewis Pickford. tallboyradio.com

  • #TBR236 - Badge, Tie and Gun
    Aug 2 2024
Ramesh Nyberg served over 20 years in a Miami, Florida Homicide Department. He's also written a memoir about his time in the Police Department. He joined us to share stories from his book : Badge, tie and Gun - Life and Death journeys of a Miami Detective. It was fascinating to hear just how he copes with the pressure put upon him by a department that was dealing with more than 1 homicide a day. What's it like working in to a crime scene and how do you mentally process it? He shares the 1 case that he still can't let go even now that he's retired. He dispels the myths that we have thanks to Hollywood and Crockett and Tubbs. We know you'll enjoy this episode - and we're sure that you'll enjoy his book which you can purchase here : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Badge-Tie-Gun-Journeys-Detective-ebook/dp/B0CTQQKQTV/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1L8OI9AA4IP1J&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.fPxxnAYObFJNlcv4rEwmrY0EJDS_kp9wZo8P1cbFXq5V02jPQ5fhuyRA7lVuRCpJvrX0FqiqrcMVGi38dwcn95Mu0SXqdYjZ4em76WcqvUHOvdBm7Pciqx8WxqfPg3phtw4KnJuzx4ffCm25bwwvh49a0juMaVMPGgEGJG1tHgjJNg7WRU6ZZXjyYsN4VRxl1XZOk_Sa1tMSOSDsSVAZFsxP7VsdWnPOSP9oMRMOxaE.nJMoKADP3tfQrXOqTlzJQ5Bj0Wt30owNt07rk_deXk0&dib_tag=se&keywords=badge+tie+and+gun&qid=1721195061&s=books&sprefix=badge+tie+and+gun%2Cstripbooks%2C59&sr=1-1 The opening music is "London Bayou" by Oscar Albis Rodrigues and the closing music is "BDS" by Lewis Pickford. tallboyradio.com

  • #TBR235 - Whiskey and Oatcakes
    Jul 26 2024
Steve emigrated to Illinois in the USA in 2004 - some would say to get away from his brother and co-host of Tall Boy Radio, Dave. His Wife worked in the pottery industry and had a specialist position that they were crying out for in the US whilst the industry declined in the UK. We take a look at life in the US through the eyes of a Brit. Politics, sports, gun control, the education system.... no topic is off the table. Steve brought a Japanese Whiskey, we supplied an Irish Whiskey and a local delicacy called oatcakes and shot the breeze. The opening music is "London Bayou" by Oscar Albis Rodriguez and the closing music is "BDS" by Lewis Pickford. tallboyradio.com
