In this episode, my friend and fellow direct care dermatologist, Dr. Riyaz, shares his journey from medical school to the innovative direct care practice that he launched in 2023.

He sheds light on the pivotal influences in his life, the intersection of medicine, business, and journalism in his professional pursuits, and the transformative power of storytelling.

He reflects on the rewards of his service-based approach that allows him to build deeper relationships with patients and how he seeks out value in his practice while maintaining uncompromised patient care standards.

Reflecting on what direct care means to him, he provides us with an engaging and thought provoking reframe of direct care as value-based care. This contrasts starkly with the web of bureaucracy and alphabet soup that I imagine many of you think of when you hear the phrase "value-based care".

Dhaval Desai, MD is a dedicated father, husband, son, and doctor. In his work as a caregiver and a colleague, he places a priority on the well-being of both the patient and the healthcare provider.
