  • How Romantic is your Romanticisation?
    Feb 2 2022

We romanticise the individual experience because we are so alienated from the community. We are so lonely we have taken to altering our perspective on life just to bring ourselves a little solace. TikTok's romanticisation trend has become a cultural movement. But what are this movement's real motivations? Is it damaging our mental health? Are we now so lost in our online world we've lost all touch with our reality? Or is this new movement helping us recover from a two-year-long pandemic?

This episode is co-hosted by Jamie Spillett aka @cubismhater

  • Stop Asian Hate
    May 8 2021

This week on the Espresso Series were joined by Racism Unmasked. Racism Unmasked Edinburgh is a movement to combat racism towards East Asians/Southeast Asian-presenting people in Edinburgh and the wider U.K who have experienced racism. With the recent racist attack on the University of Edinburgh's campus, Racism Unmasked's work has been pivotal in creating safe spaces on campus. They are trying to create a place to share experiences, come together as a community and become empowered. They also campaign for policy change in various organisations and companies, such as the fast fashion company Boohoo, and they hope to spread their movement to our universities.

  • The Girls fighting back against the Misogynistic Side of Gig Culture
    Mar 4 2021

This week we are joined by Anna and Alice from Girls Against. Girls Against is an organisation fighting to sexual assault and misogyny within the live music scene. We aim to build educational resources, to create safe spaces and to ensure the voices of all marginalised folks are heard and listened to. We founded in 2016 as a response to multiple instances of sexual harassment at gigs, and since we have built our campaign to support survivors and to give them a voice. We host gigs, club-nights, fundraisers and produce educational content and resources. We have been featured on BBC News, VICE, The Guardian, The Independent and more
